She does doesnt she Laura Thanks Sandy, have replied re saddle, shes soooo green though tis unreal. Ive done so much LL with her but shes still very joggy and unsettled when out on her own. She knows as soon as we reach mid way point for going home, no matter what route we are on and starts jog trotting grr. She isnt really safe to ride out so still longlining as you can see!

Lovely sunny pics - specially the first one. Ive done so much LL with her but shes still very joggy and unsettled when out on her own. She knows as soon as we reach mid way point for going home, no matter what route we are on and starts jog trotting grr. She isnt really safe to ride out so still longlining as you can see! Can I add a quick thought on this? I don't know if these photos are representative of her longlining work in general, but I'm afraid none of then show she's got any attention on you. She's either alert and looking for danger (with a running foot in the last shot), or she's off doing her own thing, eating and talking to her friends. This then says to her that she's up there in front and she's the decision maker. That means she's the one who has to worry. What you need to do is go back to school work with her on the lines and keep asking for her concentration, and keep all the decisions with you. If you see she's either wafting off elsewhere or is alert and focussed on something, just give a couple of light squeezes on one line to ask her to come back to you, or give her something to do that takes her away from whatever she's looking at. When you've got concentration in the school, then go out for short spells, but again always keeping you in a firm leadership role. It's only when she's sure you're in charge of every detail of her safety that she'll be able to stop being alert and instead relax. Sorry to barge in with a lecture, but I thought it might help!

Nope barge away Liz The first pic those two other horses were zooming around behind her at 100 miles away and I was just asking her to stand rather than trying to go with them, and the others my dad was holding the lines and i was taking pics so not really going for concentration at those points *blushes* However what you say makes a huge lot of sense and especially translates to when we are riding, she just shuts down and doesnt listen to me at all so is thinking shes the one in charge so has to be the one to worry. Hmmmm

Ok... so another point... remember she doesn't know that your dad has just taken over while you take a photo. She just knows that she's on the lines while the world takes off around her and she's the one that's got to be worried about it. As she is always learning from everything, it's important to make sure she's learning the right thing, always. Next time, get your dad to hold the camera while you keep your leadership in place for her. I was going to say "forget about the photos" but I'd probably be hounded off the DG! ;D

haha it was the first time in ages id had someone with me to take some pics! Really frustrates me i have very few of her progress cos its usually me on my own.
Im not sure it would have made a difference who had hold of the lines tbh as on LLs she does seem to think shes off on her own, she listens to me cos her ears flick back when i talk, but she suddenly becomes deaf to voice commands whereas on the lunge she is very good with them.
