Sad news Im afraid. They came this morning to do the deed all for being saw footed but if honest because she was unable to give him any more foals. I tried to tell his brother that I may have a home for her but he said it was Richards choice! Womenofgoth rang me moments after it had happened. I was holding it together till then but I could hear the others calling for her even with head phones on it was all to much. So Im sorry you had to deal with my blubbering. Thanks again for your offer of taking her it was so kind. Who turns up with small children to do this thing it just baffles me :-((
Sorry if this is in the wrong place but i need to act fast. My neighbour is about to have h :)is tb mare shot. She has raced and has given him several ofsprings, he's hoping for a winner! She's no use to him now so he has decided to put her to sleep. She's an old girl I think and has had a hard life but Im just hoping someone out there needs a companion horse. I know its a long shot and yes I know there is loads of unwanted horse out there but I just have to try.

Oh how sad. Poor girl. I wish I could help and sincerely hope someone who reads this can. Well done for trying to give her a chance and I wish you good luck x

If she is an old girl and has had a hard life as you say, could well be better for her to just put the lights out kindly and humanely. There are too many and some of them will get used and abused way after they have given all they have to give, kind homes are scarce.
"And finally, OH MY MASTER, when my useful strength is gone, do not turn me out to starve or freeze, or sell me to some cruel owner, to be slowly tortured and starved to death; but do thou, My Master, take my life in the kindest way, and your God will reward you here and hereafter." I was privileged to be given an old TB mare when she retired from breeding as a companion for my Aged Arab, it worked really well, they were similar age, had similar needs, it gave them both a new lease of life and they galloped around like 2 year olds. Both had sparkly eyes, were well covered, lived out 24/7 (with Rugs) in the harshest of snowy winters, because both were a bit claustrophobic. At 6:30 am feeds on a cold winter morning it was awesome to call them, (TB was deaf but she had pair bonded with Zarello) hear them come galloping up for their breakfast before I could see them, stand still for all over checks then just carry on galloping around... Sadly she developed a tumor in her throat which caused recurrent episodes of choke, despite meds and a change of diet at 22 she was PTS. With my health conditions I am not able to ride, and even need help with grooming, but I really enjoyed the couple of years I had with that old Mare. You may find someone wanting to semi retire an older mare who has the same feed and management needs as this mare will. It is a hard time I know (still not had anyone suitable for Az, or maybe I am being too picky) but it has to be worth a try, but I would only loan under very tight conditions at that age.

She's had a hard time in her later life.I would love see her out in a field some where doing what horses love doing best even if its for a short time. Time is running out the hunt could turn up at any moment.

Hi
I could take her but I am in North Yorkshire, if someone can arrange the transport side of things she could come here, I have a TB gelding who was going to meet a similar fate.
PM me

If we manage a relay, I can do some of the final transport run - my trailer is at WoG's yard already. If she comes here of course!

Well we've been on the phone to the owner who is in hospital with a broken leg to make sure that his brother has told him that she is looking a lot better since being taken away from the others, as she was being bullied and would he not wait until he got home to see the improvement. His 4 horses are in a confined space, standing in thick mess so being the oldest she was finding it difficult to get away and also get her feed and hay share. After a few days of me then a friend feeding them we noticed how poor she looked, so stabled her over night. The next day we put her in his school where she could see the others and gave her a hay net which she didn't eat. She didn't look happy and we thought she may have a touch of colic but my neighbour being what he is rather than get the vet out he decided to have her shot. The next morning she had finished her hay net and was waiting for my friend at the gate for her feed with her head held high and her ears pricked forward. We even started to wander this morning if we had the wrong horse as she looked so well. We said all this this morning to him but but we were told he would be putting her back with them when he got home, so she may as well be put to sleep now and he had made his mind up. Apparently she has a cyst on her ovary's but has had a foal since getting it and an attempt to put her in foal last year which failed hence why she is no use to him now. We have lost count on how many she has had. Thankyou both for your offer but as my trailer floor is not safe I couldn't get her to you. The life she would live with him would not be kind so as much as I hate the thought of her going, in fact this has really upset me, being put to sleep as others have said would be kinder. I'm still hoping for a miracle tho.

Unless I go to him and say I have found her an offer of a home and this is how we are getting her there then Im wasting my time Jen. He wouldn't be putting his hand in his pocket. As you can probably tell hes not my favourite person.

Out of interest what will it be costing him to have the hunt take her? Depends, it varies from Hunt to Hunt. Some are free, some charge a nominal amount. I feel for you knowing you are trying your best for this mare x
