If you read Jennyb's thread last week you'll know I mentioned my veteran horse Charlie was also getting near his time.
Sadly we had to say goodbye this afternoon. Those of you who were lucky enough to ride him in lessons before he retired will know what an irreplaceable angel he was. He was 25 and although he'd been enjoying retirement until now he had started finding it difficult to get up and down so we knew the time had come.
He had a lovely and so peaceful last day noshing grass in the sunshine with his best friend Perry, lots of apples and carrots and having a good old tail scratch from Jo.
Goodbye and thank you, Charlie. You gave so much, so willingly and literally changed my life!
So sorry to hear this Derek. I lost my 22 yr old Warmblood mare, Millie the Monday before last, and know only too well how you feel. Millie had been on permanent loan to me for 15 years, but I knew her back to her breeder who is a close friend. It is so hard to make that decision, and I feel for you.
