As many of you may know, my Mums mare Lola is on loan to a lovely lady locally. She is literally just up the road so I pop in and chat to owner regularly and she often texts me to chat.
We Lola has developed a strong bond with the horse, Ebony, who is in the stable next door, (and who is now in a field nearby). Lola frets if she can't see her, so much so that if she is left out in the field while the other is bought in she looses all manners and is frantic to come in, and if she is bought in first she panics in the stable and barges etc until the other horse joins her. It is obviously not always practical for both horses to come in straight away together, and not possible to lead both together.
Loaner text me this morning asking for advice and I went to see her today. It is odd as Lola has always been Miss Independent and not bothered by the other horses around her. She didn't have this bond particularly to start with and has been there a couple of months now, so not sure why she suddenly has this infatuation with her stable companion. The only thing is her and Ebony are the only two horses in their stable area at the moment (other yard outside has 4 horses in it) However, they are out with another horse between them in the field who Lola has no real attachment too (although she has been turned out alongside him longer)
Problem is Ebony is not actually her horse, she just has her on loan, and her owner is taking her back in January, and she will be turned out in another field on the farm (and may even leave farm all together) So this obviously needs sorting, but not sure where to start or what to advise!
