He he, I guess this is in relation to uva, and it is a small barrow and she really only does a wheelbarrow a week on her field out in daylight hours and in her stable the dark. I think she does particularly small poos as I prob get 20-25 out her field in my one little barrow (will count this week ;-) ) 3 of her poos fit in my poop scoop. Takes me half hour tops to clean her whole field. When I did it daily there were 4 poos a day out there. When in during the day through summer there were 2 barrows a week out there. She is out in her own with horses in adjacent fields so easy to monitor.
I get about 5 left in her stable for me each night and with all the wet removed I don't fill my wheelbarrow. Even my full muckout on straw fitted in to my barrow. I have the small metal b&q wheel barrow which is tiny in comparison to other barrows I have used.
She is fed 2 fibre feeds a day (top chop light and hi fibre nuts) has constant trickle of high fibre nuts in feed ball and as much hay as she can eat. So not for lack of fibre.
She is a very clean mare all round.

Is very interesting to hear what other horses do too! I have worried about uva in past as when she moved house 18months ago she pretty much stopped pooing and urinating- in an24 hot period in her stable (due to being snowed in) there were 3 poos and one small wee. Despite eating normally. This went on for a few days until I popped her on pink powder.

Sometimes I can't quite fit one of Lady's in the scoop but can get 2-3 of Dibbles and Silky. Silky is by far the tidiest as she must back right up to the fence, we're sure she's tring to get it in the next field lol.

When I went to a laminitis talk by Derek Knottenbelt he said that 10 a day was normal and showed the horse was getting enough fibre. More than that and you were probably feeding too much and 5 or less meant you were probably not feeding enough. Guess it depends on the size of the piles though! My lot do about half a barrow each per day. Thanks for that June - I always keep tabs on what HRH 32 yr old dentally challenged cushingoid Sabria produces and she seems to maintain her body weight at 6 a day. On the one day I counted Caspars his count was 12, the others share fields so hard to tell. In summer with poo picking happening daily I allow for just over 1/2 barrow per horse. Two barrows a week is not a lot

Has the horse been trained to do that, or has she trained herself? I've always thought it ought to be possible to train a horse to go in a certain place as they do use latrine areas, but I've never had much success.

Sort of both! She is one day when she poo picking and Becca as quick as a flash praised her and gave her a good scratch and tickle and it has sort of gone from there! She only does it in a field on her own though if you put her out with friends she won't leave the herd to do it but this time of year they all have individual paddocks

I am going to have to teach Henry to poo in the barrow. Only trouble is he likes tipping the full barrow over so might not be quite so tidy!!
Talin and Hen do 1 barrow a day between the two, it's a fairly big barrow and I have to jump up and down on it to get it all in! At the moment they've got loads of grass so are doing more like 1.5 a day.

Oh heck! Looks like I over feed Sophie then! Eight poos overnight. ;D Actually the last few nights much less, about five but I'm collecting rain water for drinking and have noticed a few poo changes since doing that. I pick between three and four barrows in 24 hours for three biggies and three smallies. To add, my barrows aren't too full as I cant tip them.

I've found that the amount of poo has rocketed since the weather got colder, and I would say I currently get 2 buckets full a day from my highland, and slightly less from my arab x cob. Not sure if that's becuase they need to eat more to keep warm, or because I can't soak the hay, so it's much tastier and my fatty eats more Good job I got his weight down before winter

I have between 10 & 14 to pick up per day, closer to 10 now the grass is going a bit - that's from a 15hh slightly portly lady who is strip-grazed and has only just started having hay out.
That's about 2/3 - 3/4 of a barrow a day.

We were poo picking for 56 horses daily over the summer. I now consider myself something of a poo expert! Hangs head in shame at moaning about my 2 ;D
