I was quite surprised to read about a horse that only produces a barrow load a week as mine tend to produce more than half a barrow a day each, I wondered what you considered average.
Mine are, Lady, IrishX may only go 6 times in 24hrs, though you need a mechanical digger to shift it! Dibbles, arab will leave anything up to 18 presents for me, though obviously a bit smaller. Silky 3/4 arab/welsh generally provides 10-12 though if she's feeling generous 14-16.

No idea but thank you for giving me a giggle at the generosity of your silky.
My horses like to roll, churn and stir their beds so have no idea when they stay in at night. When they are out, its nice when there is lots of grass as no need to lug hay to the field, but lots of grass = lots of poos to pick up.
I guess the more they poo the more fibre they must be having which is good for them- bad for our backs pushing wheel barrows ;D

My Connie foal does a barrow a night, about eight roughly and he is only in from about five till half nine. I presume he does as many if not more whilst he is out due to movement getting rid of the backlog. He will make around 14 hands and he is nine months old.

When I went to a laminitis talk by Derek Knottenbelt he said that 10 a day was normal and showed the horse was getting enough fibre. More than that and you were probably feeding too much and 5 or less meant you were probably not feeding enough. Guess it depends on the size of the piles though! My lot do about half a barrow each per day.

Sorry, couldn't resist ;D

I would put both Midi and Dan on approx 3/4 of a barrow per 24 hour period

Flippin' heck June!! 56??? Would love to see your gargantuan muck heap! ;D At the moment, 5 horses on foggage field are producing about 4-5 barrows daily. In the summer, around 2-3 barrows. If my horse was producing a barrow a week I would be seriously worried about it's digestive system!! PS Ladyndibs - we did notice the drop in poo production when Silky went to you!! ;D ;D
