Okay, so I moved my pony into a new stable a couple of doors along. The new box has a stable mirror which he's never had before.
When I go over and watch him from the door he's quite chilled and stood nose to nose with it, looking quite relaxed.
When I go in the box he launches at the mirror and gets agitated! Quite out of character.
Do you think he ll get used to it? I can't have this behaviour long term, he lashes at the mirror and I'd hate for anyone to get between him and it!
When I'm not in the box with him I really think he quite likes it, if I thought he d get used to it in a couple of days I'd leave it up... Thoughts / experiences?

The positioning of mirrors is very important. I could be that he sees the horse in the mirror as a threat when you approach and he escalates his behaviour to chase it off when it doesn't back down when he sends his first go away signals. Can you move the mirror so that he can't see it if you approach?
My sister had to very carefully position the one for her horse, away from where she stood at doors and away from food and water. She put it in the back corner where the horse stood to doze, but where she couldn't see her reflection when she was elsewhere in the box.
