if not on ebay, im looking for farrington and dever, new or used but where are they made, ive looked under the generic name but nothing, am i being thick, both need to be about 10 inch between d to d, some call this extra extra wide, for a 17 inch saddle i just call it common sense, that its classed as being wide, how do you determine the true width of what is wide and xxxwide, the latter xxxwide would be 11 to 12 inches,

It depends on so many things. The Dever saddle I'm using is XW, and I lined that up next to sarahandrieu's Kent and Masters with an XW gullet in and when you looked at the D rings they looked about the same, but the panels of the K&M were much thicker and had a more square profile at the top, whereas the Dever panel follows the tree better. The result is the Dever sits nicely on Talin and the K&M is far, far too narrow. I'd probably need an XXXW one of those at least.
Afraid I can't help with where to get either, I got the Dever from Henry's owner, she had it made to measure for Henry and he hated it! ;D

it can be any make, but the dever and some of the farringtons have the right profile and width with almost a hoop head on the underside of the pommel

Saddlesdirect.co.uk has some farringdon and dever saddles on their website. Preloved might be worth a look as well.

I have a Farrington brown working hunter which is wide ish it used to belong to Annie my old mare. If you like I can post some pics tomorrow, I could try to put a ruler against it or something. I think it was med wide. I am a bit too knackered to measure it now
