Hi Guys
Some of you might remember that about this time last year I posted that I was looking for a loan horse - and consequently was lucky enough to be invited by Kelly to ride her Corky-Angel. Corky has now gone off to be shown and ridden by Daisy so once again I am looking for a loan horse for me to use for general purpose riding, some long hacks, fun rides, non-competitive endurance rides, a little bit of jumping but mainly I want to be able to take him/her hunting (I'm a joint master of our Bloodhound pack and need a horse!). It's not 5-bar gate type hunting and to be honest, I'm not the bravest or best rider out so the horse doesn't need to be a super hunting/steeplechasing type but a steady ID x TB-type would suit me fine! (also, my trailer is an IW506 so I can't take on a 17hh monster cos it wouldnt fit!)
I've got a place reserved in a lovely yard not far from Didcot, where 24/7 turnout is available and I'd have a stable too if that suits the horse better. It's within easy trailering to the Berkshire Downs and the Ridgeway(I'm based near Didcot / Wantage in Oxfordshire) with hundreds of miles of off road riding and lots of good hills (am I selling the yard and myself well enough?).
I know I'm not asking for much (just the perfect horse ha ha!) but if anyone has a horse up for loan I'm intersted in at least taking a look!
Cheers!

could you cope with occasional buck, not that the one i have in mind has done it much, could you cope with putting the work into a horse who takes a while to settle and needs practise at getting out and about, could you cope with one thats bomb proof to the point he let a jelly copter land next to him, could you cope with a barefoot horse with feet like rocks, do you have the option of restricted grazing, without being in the stable too much, im talking about my barney who i love dearly but has not got a job any more due to me trying to bring 2 youngsters on,barney is shire x hanavarian and about 16,2hh but big with it, very well schooled, was a show jumper by the time he was 5 though, not with me hunted in ireland which tbh would have blown his brains, however he is very trainable and amenable to anything ,if you take the time it takes for him to get used to the situations you put him in, he is a super horse, i used ride him out in halter when i was hacking him out regular, he really is the best , and very good at buffering babies out on the rds, he knows his job,

I have a TB ex-racer, who I would consider loaning to the perfect home, 5 year old not done much due to my lack of time/new job plus starting a new business! She is a little underweight due to living out all winter but is picking up nicely, She also is currently being shod by remedial farrier as she suffered foot abscesses before I brought her which damaged her coronet band, she is 2nd set of shoes with this farrier and difference is amazing and vet/remedial farrier has advised she now needs to go out and start working, comes with bridle and rugs. You will not come across a more loving genuine mare, I am based by Swindon so not too far from you. I am happy to continue paying towards her shoes with Robin if she continued to need them and loaner was happy to bring her across to brinkworth every 4/6 weeks, Robin has advised this isn't a long term requirement just until she is sorted and then any normal farrier will be able to continue with her. She has a massive jump and good fun to ride PM me if interested or add me on FB 'Leanne kent' to see more pictures.

Thanks both of you
Jen1 - Lancashire is a bit of a long way from here to come try out your boy but if the couple of local options don't work out I'll be in touch! I'm going to a wedding in Newcastle at the end of August so if I havent found one by then I can call in to you on the long journey home!
Horsefeed - I'm trying a horse out this weekend but if that doesn't work out, I'll be back in touch.

Horsefeed - I'm trying a horse out this weekend but if that doesn't work out, I'll be back in touch. im not really actively looking for a loan home, but ive always known in my heart he is just a super horse who when ridden regular would love hunting and x country type riding, ive galloped him round my farm and wow , i feel the right person will come along, he needs an 8-x balance saddle so a big wide boy, very athletic when ridden well, push button ride really, have a look on my website he is on there, without him id have never have got my babies out on the busy rds he would hack a child up the moter way but he has his quirks that appear when out of his comfort zones , so what im saying is work on his comfort zones and he will be brilaint,, he lives on fresh air ,good hay thats all he needs and a scoop of linseed/vit e, salt in the winter, its summer and grass that would worry me and thats not just barney its all my horses they live on bf tracks on little grazing and hay,

unfortunately there are soooo many loan horses available at the moment and you do have a pick of a bunch as owners struggle to manage! This is due to the rise in hay and everything else cost wise except a wage increase. Many owners have no choice but to follow this route, I know this is a very sympathetic area at the moment and potential loanees should be aware of this and maybe try to be a little sympathetic,

Hi Arabmania - I'm actually finding it quite difficult to get a loan horse - maybe because most people envisage hunting as manic high speed drag hunting whereas my kind of hunting is more sedate (and as I'm a bit of a jumping coward I'm far more likely to volunteer to be the 'non-jumping' field master for the day!)

barney would be very high speed for the first 30 mins, untill he had been a few times, depends on if you could cope with the first 30 mins and sewing machine legs, , he loves trotting in a pack never offering to break into anything else, the excitment of cantering in a pack might be something quite differant, on his first few outings, lol good luck with your search
