Again reading another thread got me thinking The thread about top eventers and show jumpers buying their way to the top, there was a few mentions of horses being associated with class and having money. Isn't it funny how things leap up in price as soon as they have anything to do with horses? I was at a tack shop last week and sitting outside were plastic mounting blocks they were £109 each you can buy a very similar thing for DIY for about £30, a friend got a wooden one with 3 steps from Ikea for £3 (he thought about buying a load and putting a pic of a horse on and sell them for 20 times that lol, sad thing is it would work), another thing is lead ropes you can but a big role of rope for a few quid, clips for about £1-2 each but buy a ready made one in a tack shop and you pay £6-7 each!! Buckets are another thing you can get in Asda for £1 (tub trugs style things) but look at the price rocket when you say they are horsey buckets and put them in a tack shop! It's crazy and annoying

You seem to have answered your own question really - don't buy them in the tack shop.

Wasn't really a question as such but yes I do use Asda buckets, loreal kids shampoo, conditioner and de tangler for mane and tail, baby shampoo for body and baby sponges etc... but why should it be so expensive? It can't cost more to make surely

Its because we have horses so we are of course rich and can afford to pay over the odds!! Not!! what companies fail to realise is that actual we have no money because we have horses. I try and find alternatives where i can

Lol true said friend with the mounting block says this too, people assume he has money as he has 3 horses on a livery yard and he says "No I would have money if I didn't have horses" lol

Yup totally agree, I used to buy riding high viz type stuff from a cycle catalogue as it was loads cheaper. Again I think because of the visible sporting face of equestrianism, normal horse owners have to pay the price, and of course spend all our time explaining that we are not rich toffs because we have horses. Not that I want to get into reverse classism lol, nothing wrong with being a rich toff, I'm sure they are the same mix of absolutely lovely and toal t*ssers as the rest of society ha ha!

Totally agree - just spent the day pinching the mounting block from the people in the lorry parked next to me and when I asked where it was from, it was IKEA and we had exactly this conversation !!

very true, and i suppose us horse owners like to spend money on things for our four legged friends, i know i spend far more on my 3 than i do on myself medication is also far more expensive for horses, my old boy had to have lactulose and it was a fraction of the price purchasing from local chemists rather than vets (vets said to me to get it from chemist much cheaper)

A certain hairdressing warehouse (used to be known as Ogee's) actually sold horse shampoo under a different label to salons.......

This is very true. I agree to all of the above and will add a few of my own.
Making fly spray or getting Avon skin so soft compared to £10-15 in stores. Feed bins- go to Homebase or a DIY shop. Carrots in shops. We used to get ours from a man that delivered them for half the price! They were bigger sacks as well.
