I think that competitions with IH related prizes would be brilliant. I would enter all of them if there was a chance to win say an IH jacket or a dually. Even IH gift vouchers would be good

I love LP and especially the free DVDs! Would like to see articles on 'alternative/complimentary 'therapies :reiki, bowen,TT etc; and perhaps 'animal communication'-Catrin?
. any articles featuring 'problem solving' are very useful and informative, especially if accompanied by photos
Love updates on Kelly's horses esp the youngsters
Agree,letters page might be fun
Competitions are good but agree quite restricted by travelling etc
Can't get into Members pages so gave up trying!Sorry |

I always look forward to a new LP dropping through the letter box, and this month the extra bonus of the Xmas DVD was much appreciated!
Personally I enjoy the practical articles eg Nicole's intelligent riding, Rosie's off the leg and control the shoulder etc, because these are techniques I can try myself on my horses.
Also it is fun to see how the youngsters are doing with updates on Bankseeeeeee and Corkeeeeee and little Romiiiiiiiiii. Members stories are also interesting, and good to hear what other people are up to.
The members section of the main IH website has been tricky as the log in can be temperamental. I've enjoyed being able to look through the various student's studies and projects, and the 3 short videos. But once you've seen them, there's not really much to go back for. Your latest blog for instance is the beginning of September! To keep people coming back there really need to be regular updates of some sort, or it becomes a little stale.
The competitions in the LP are great, and have entered one and won one! I can understand the comments from people about not entering for tickets if the event is miles away. Maybe next March you could win an RA for a couple of hours?! I would LOVE that!

I love the LP and have all my back copies in a special box file. So useful to browse through or show to non IH people. I don't go on the members DG because I feel so guilty about the time I spend on the open DG. Also think that you may get some more controversial posts on the open forum rather than a forum dedicated to the converted! I love a bit of controversy. Articles from members always go down well and it may be useful to be able to give feedback on the articles that are not accepted for publishing. Agree that it would be better to have independant experts on the scientific articles.
But really, this is just nit picking over a very good and informative magazine.

I do think the most recent LP is the best so far One thing I have noticed (and it is only small) is that some of the articles don't have the author's name. Does anyone else think it is interesting to know who has written them or am I just nosy?! I liked the "Meet the Members" this time. I DO love to hear how Kelly's babies are coming along. Competitions, maybe have a competitions page? That way people won't miss them. I would love IH vouchers, then you can spend them on anything you want, courses, books, clothing, dually etc. Top Spec voucher was brill, can we have them everytime?!! I do go on the members section sometimes, but it doesn't change much, I mostly use it to look at the previous psychology projects, very interesting reading

Hello x I think the LP is SOOOOO amazing.
Just when you are thinking oh no not more bills and junk mail....you see the big white envelope and then suddenly from that moment of realisation there is only the hurried sound of paper tearing, revealing the beloved LP; like a suprise present, there it is, in all its shining glory! This is then followed by a very contented and excited feeling as the pages are eagerly turned immediately by myself, as I grab a sneek preview of the sheer delight I will be enveloped in over the next day or so as I read it from cover to cover!! (I don't get out much!!!)
I love all the articles as they all have something interesting to say, even if its a concept you are familiar with there will be something in the article that makes you think or refreshes your own thoughts.
I love all the`how to' kind of approach articles such as those by Nicole and Rosie, highlighting the importance of incremental work. Generally the articles that `make you think', perhaps challenging traditional ideas or concepts. I have noticed myself a similarity between so called `nappy ponies' which I find on a general level respond well to lots of lateral work, in the way that perhaps some of the authentic traditionalists may respond to lateral thinking? Not that I am knocking traditionalists as there is much that we can learn from the tradition of doing things, but a lot of the time I have found that people can rely quite stubbornly on `tradition' instead of thinking for themselves, or searching for a way of improving how something might be done. These articles certainly challenge my thinking and encourage me to think laterally and incrementally anyway, which I love. I am no longer like a nappy pony - now I think FORWARDS and SIDEWAYS, in fact my feet are now willing to move in ANY DIRECTION, and I now feel that I have found the most comfortable path - IH.
Competition IH prizes would be good for people such as a percentage off courses or a day working alongside Kelly or one of the RAs would be amazing! Also IH clothing prizes would be attractive, or perhaps a chance to ride out with Kelly on a hack? how amazing would that be! I always think its the pizes that attract people to enter. Hope this helps. xx

I am happy to give feedback on articles received but only if people are brave enough to take it. Alternatively I can edit an article that I hope to be able to use and send it back for you to look at. It's all about not having an ego when you write, just as you shouldn't when you work with a horse. Not always easy. When I wrote No Fear, No Force I let my Mum proof read it and she went to school in the days when they learnt proper grammar. It came back with more red ink than black. For obvious reasons, Kelly gets the last say on articles used in the Listening Post and it is never anything personal, it just has to be a good fit for that magazine at that time. Tips for writing a good article: Write it as you would say it ;D; Be concise and exciting ; Read it through afterwards and see whether it is something you would like to read and get someone else to read it for you ; Use your spell checker ; Count the number of words to check you haven't gone way over the allowance ; Take some really good photos of the subject matter and check that you have covered safety, no weird objects in the background and in focus; Send it all to Sarah and say whether you want feedback/ edited article returned p.s. Don't use loads of smilies throughout!!!

I have had several tries at logging in to the members area and gave up. Tickets to Appasionata might be a valuable prize but I agree the travelling and necessary arrangements are just too much for a lot of people! I agree vouchers would be brilliant.

I have just put down the latest edition of LP (check Monty out in a tux ). Looking back, you've come a long way since my first LP copy - winter 2005! The general content of LP is great, really interesting and varied. It's good to see more pictures being used - I work in a studio writing and designing holiday brochures and always refer to the power of pictures, whether you are trying to sell something or just grab people's attention. The star interview was very good, may be you could do this feature more regularly. Ask the experts, meet the members and the articles from RA's always make for a good read (particularly enjoyed How does he travel... really). I haven't done the crossword before and I agree with some of the comments above in that I don't really notice the competitions/giveaways, and having now looked I am kicking myself for not entering before! Could try giving them more emphasis - mention on the front cover with a roundel, or the opening page may be. Another idea - you could have a quarterly exercise for IH members to practice with their horse/pony and come back to you with feedback/pictures which you could feature. Just a few ideas for you. Lisa x

I like the expert articles but most of all I like the articles from horseowners who have sought the assistance of RA's and have shown how this has helped to transform their abilities and confidence around their horse. It makes me realise that I am not alone!
