I had no idea what these were until a few nights ago when someone in my village was letting a few loose after dark. Spooky things! Scared the life out of me expecially as one was floating towards my horses' field. I do not fancy one of those landing on the (flattish) roof of my stables and setting my place on fire! Another one voting for them to be banned.

Some good responses and ideas here folks. Seems there is a view they should be banned but I'm not sure there is enough general pressure expressed here to do much. To ban something needs effective legislation and politicians don't usually do anything useful in response to groups or other representations from the public unless skewered into action! I note however that there are some reports of these sky lanterns being used as a means to advertise particular protests. More antisocial behaviour but it is also food for thought? Z.

and almost having a hot air balloon land in his field since I've had him (I was there), at least I don't have to worry about Bailey being frightened of them, Lol, I wonder if that was the one that did eventually land right next to the foals in their field. They thought it was very exciting!

They thought it was very exciting! It could well have been, he was really struggling and until he saw Bailey I think they intended to land in his field, they have in the past when there were no horses there. He certainly wouldn't have got far!

Please if you had these land in your fields/hay fields/arable fields/near your barns write to BHS and to your Member of Parliament At Prime Ministers Question Time Nick Clegg has said these would not be banned www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/397/303087.htmlSo please lots of letters to BHS to lobby Gov on our behalf Horse owners will blame the farmer if they find wire in their hay/haylage but impossible to spot unless found soon after they land So dangerous and unneccessary
