and im so so happy - i got my first one on xmas day and now i get one every evening! My horse is a cob, i used to feel i was just his slave, i loved him to bits but to be honest he just wanted me for food and care - i accepted that On christmas day, i leant over his stable door as i normally do and he came over, from his delicious hay and smelt my face, then rubbed me and muzzled my face! He now does it every single evening without fail - he sniffs my nose and nuzzles me and you cannot know how happy i am - ive owned him 16 months now, hes 7 and has had at least 5 homes before me - i think hes finally realised i am his for life Im posting this because ive read lots about horses not bonding - as a novice i think if you just give your love, routine, commitment you will get it back, - it may take many many months but you will be rewarded My cob is the bolshiest most independent boy around and now i get nightly kisses - priceless and soooooooo well worth the wait xxx

What a lovely heartwarming post. Im posting this because ive read lots about horses not bonding - as a novice i think if you just give your love, routine, commitment you will get it back, - it may take many many months but you will be rewarded My cob is the bolshiest most independent boy around and now i get nightly kisses - priceless and soooooooo well worth the wait xxx I think you are so right. I do think we sometimes underestimate the time it takes many horses to bond and feel truly safe and secure.

Aww fab! I got some kisses from Jossy yesterday, but I think he was a bit drunk - treated him to a can of guinness in his tea! He is not normally that affectionate!

Im so pleased you have started this thread!!! We have four horses all youngsters, the first three all give me a kiss when i go over to their stable, very affectionate. My new horse Frankie ive only had for three weeks, when he arrived he didnt want me to touch his face at all, so a kiss was clearly out of the question! He does however watch what im doing with the others all the time and always watches me doing my jobs. He now lets me stroke his face :-) so im hoping as time progresses he will let me give him a kiss and just maybe one day he will kiss me back.....

This is of course appalling anthropomorphism on our part ;D But it is very special when they choose to show us affection and enjoyment of our company, especially the more reserved and undemonstrative ones

Floyd normally won't be seen dead kissing me and used to HATE me attempting to show him any affection. However over the past week or so, he too has tolerated me kissing his nose without pulling his head away in total shame

I'm going to put my tin hat on before posting this, and it is lovely to hear that you're bonding with your horse...
BUT, there was another thread on here recently where someone allowed their horse to nuzzle their face, then one day the horse did it to someone else and got smacked across the head - because the other person thought she was about to have her face bitten and panicked.
I really think that before encouraging that sort of behaviour you have to consider whether its acceptable for the horse to do that to strangers - because it's not fair to expect them to know it's ok with you but not with other people.

I was going to be a grinch and say the same Michelle... in general, lips on, is a sign of disrespect, not affection. Sorry.... runs for cover.

Jas is very affectionate and generally slobbers all over my face but I have to accept that Blaze just isn't a cuddly sort of horse. Jas never attempts to kiss anyone else so I don't have the problem mentioned by Michelle and Kanga.
