Can anyone recommend some 'must have' items of hiviz for my horses to have on while I'm leading them out? We are hoping to get fit and start hacking out ASAP but to start with I'd like to get them out for some in hand walks... So what do you think they should have on?? (obviously one at a time... My post sounds like I'm taking them all at once, in that case I would need more than hiviz!!)!

Quarter sheet attached to roller. Leg bands. Martingale/neckbands. Rein tubes on bridles.

Depending on the light you intend to do it in its only the reflective strips that really make a huge difference. The other really good things are red flashing lights, very eye catching. This tabard is ace - gave my dad a heart attack when we passed a woman wearing it ;D www.equisafety.com/cat/catitem.asp?pc=R03F%2DHATBN&d=1&s=1

Bertie, I love that tabbard, its looks like its the 'police' i am sure it would slow anyone down approaching A friend of mine bought me a reflective yellow tabbard last year for xmas with the words on the back 'does my bum look big on this' it was very funny but obviously would have had all the traffic honking their horns at me which wouldnt be good so never worn the thing !

Handler should wear hi viz too, i think the brighter the pair of you the better especially in icey weather as lots of motorists have frozen window screen water at this time of year so windowscreens are dirtier. We moved 6 horses at dust and in fog a couple of saturdays ago and we were lit up everyone had hi viz everything and we only had to walk them 200 yards down a quiet village road and still car drivers didn't see us to the last minute

I had resisted from commenting that the handler was in very dark clothing = /

I always wear a high viz when out on the roads, my friends mum was killed by walking at the side of her daughters pony and this was just as the sun was going down it's just not worth the risk.

I dont like those quatre sheets by themselves. They are only visable side on, not from the front or behind. I always have the horses kitted out in leg and tail wraps, neck straps and rider in hiviz jacket and hat band. The handler needs to be more vusable when on the ground as it is you that will be between the horse and traffic if leading out.

Bertie 666 says " I had resisted from commenting that the handler was in very dark clothing" bertie if your referring to my piccie, I was longlining on a private road on the farm 1 min from my stables, the house we are passing is my landlords, so there was no chance of 'traffic' I do wear a hi-viz jacket myself when going on normal roads

Find a local £1 shop, they have silver flashing LED bands, they fit humans and horses. Personally we have fleece workmans jackets and bomber style waterproof ones all with plenty of reflective strips which are the most important thing to have. We wear the same whether riding or leading.
Fluorescent pom pom hats off the local market for our hats, fluorescent leg warmers from Primark £1 a pair, orange, green, pink or yellow, we have them all - LOL Fit both humans and ponies. Exercise sheets with reflective strips or lights, we've also got some Shires battery boot lights which fasten around the lower leg with red to the back and white to the front.
Yes we look like xmas trees and it takes a wee longer to get ready but we have comments every time we ride or lead out, you can see us for yards up the road...............
