Could you post some recent photos of him? Maybe he's really not that bad - it's so easy to get paranoid about our neds' welfare!
Looked at from the side, my Fjord mare looks like she must have a HUGE belly, but she's actually just deep rather than wide. I think she's one of the more 'sturdy' types of Fjord, maybe built more for pulling a plough than being ridden!
Equest does control encysted redworm, so that should be OK.
I haven't tried Thunderbrooks feeds, but I hope they are to your fella's liking and they help him to get into shape.

Thanks Telstar. I'll get some of his belly tomorrow. Got Yeasacc today - he's completely unimpressed by it, but I hope it will help.

I see what you mean about the belly, but im at a loss of what to suggest to be honest, nothing feels abnormal or strange? Has he lost ALOT of weight to make it look more obvious?

I don't think the first pic makes his belly look that huge, but the 2nd and 4th ones do! His hindquarters don't look very well muscled up - what is his neck like? If I can figure out how to post pictures on here I'll try to take a few of my Fjord for a comparison. You can just about make out her shape through the mud and hair!
From reading your posts about Jos, I know you're 100% committed to his welfare, so I'm sure he'll turn out fine in the end.

Thanks everyone. He is thin EVERYWHERE apart from his belly - I daren't feed less, as he will end up a skeleton with a belly :/ I will re-worm him, and hope that the yeasacc makes a difference. His neck has a little muscle along the top.

Me too Mel. Can you get him on a weighbridge to ensure correct (enough) dose? Have a chat with your vet friend but I'd be tempted to give 5 day panacur followed by tape wormer after a safe interval.

do a worm count first though, just go onto westgate's and order a worm count kit its only a few pounds but worth knowing, Whinneys was attrociously high (1600) and there is no way she looked at all wormy www.westgatelabs.co.uk/our-services/index.html

Our mare has some sort of insulin resistance (NON-FJORD) and had the shape yiou described. Again she was on a LOT of hay which filled her gut up, but not her topline and she looked awful. Now her foal is off her, and she has improved, and now she's in work, her "gut" is improving and toning up.
My Fjord had put on weight (now cut feed back a little again) !! well it didn't help we didn't ride as much over that brief icy spell we had. But we are back to riding now, and she already is toning up again. You don't realise how much muscle/condition a Fjord can easily lose when you stop working them !! They are designed after all to withstand long hard winters, and flab up easily to keep warm LOL I expect the condition will come back again.
It could be as simple as age/teeth (did he have dentist before the winter) or just cushings/IR ? I feed my lot non-grain feeds and oils only, and treat them all as if they could be metabolic or IR ? They aren't suffering for it and look good, and prevention better than cure in my eyes anyway.
