Hi I've been reading through the chats on the main discussion group, and wondered how everyone in the Anglia region is.? Anyone up for slightly more personal chats in this area? So any news ? Any events going on? With winter coming on, thought we might have bit more time to catch up. How is everyone preparing for winter? Are your horses in or out? How are you finding hay?

It.s a pain trying to find a yard, I am lucky to able to keep mine at home, in fact I have a few liveries here. All mine live out, they have field shelters and rugs and when the wind and rain is hitting my window in the middle of the night, I put in ear plugs and convince my self they are horses. I did bring in my 2 yo last winter cos I needed to know where he was. It's always a good start to the day if Marley is in the field where I left him. He's broken 25 rails, dismantled 2 automatic water tanks and torn a friends £100 rug - bless him. He is now backed so looking forward to giving him some work next spring.
I have managed to buy in enough (hopefully) hay to see me through, another reason the horses will stay out their stables are full of hay. Two growers have said if we have snow it will run out. Some people are keeping it back, no doubt to sell it at a vast price next spring. I wish they wouldn't scare monger on the news the last thing I heard someone say was it could be £9 a bale. Well mine will be eating straw at that price.
Do you compete? Did you do the Newmarket ride this year? I did it a few years ago but wasn't fit enough this year.

Farmers are keeping their hay because they are hoping that the prices are going up again, and I think they are going to. Sooo annoying.

Hiya,
havnt done an awful lot this year although more than last we are happy hackers at the moment! with aspirations of doing some local level shows or some fun rides and or trec, transport is the problem at the moment!!! as in lack of! we missed the nmkt ride again due to fitness and work getting in the way! although at the moment we do have the luxury of being able to go up on the heath when we like in the afternoons! maybe we should all get fit enough for the rride nxt yr and meet up!!??
yes hay im trying to stock pile it a bit in mums garage! although not enough yet for all of winter!

Hello We also haven't done a lot - mainly cos of intermittant unsoundness, but as there is another horse on the yard that i'm allowed to ride any time I like - that is really rather a lame excuse ;D (scuse the pun!) Hay - more expensive than last year. I've got a supplier at the moment but I don't think he will be able to supply for the whole of the winter. I've been trying to make it last longer by feeding haylage as well. There seems to be more of that around than hay this year. well thats about it realy....

I am in East Anglia, and I haven't done a lot, saw the sponsored rides and hay is an issue at the moment, no one is selling, but he-ho, I found some and my mare Milly will love me for it.

The Newmarket ride was a big ambition for us before my boys accident. He wasn't ready last year (only 5 and I felt we hadn't done enough smaller rides /travelling etc) Not sure if he ll ever manage the level of work required - it's 1.5hr in the lorry for us from Harlow and I would want to do the 15miles to get on the gallops so not insignificant. Who knows, never say never !! Essex brdleways organise some shorter rides which sound great, I've heard their rides are pretty well organised, they are all over Essex we'll aim for a couple of those next year

I'm trapped between EA and the Mids area, so I'll join in anyway! Re Hay: just don't get me started other than its the media's fault! I have been fortunate to get hopefully enough but I have 16 from foals up and its crippling me at me, some in some out Not got anything out competing just now: I have mine at home so lucky in this weather but I personally have nothing for me to ride (too much weight and confidence issue) but my daughter is going to get going after Xmas to qualify for VHS she wants to get to Olympia! ambition is good they say! She has already qual. for RIHS next year and a couple of others. She does dressage also so will potter through winter on that. Next year will mostly be youngsters in-hand other than that. Will need to get some weight off and get fit I guess. I used to live in/around Royston so guess my heart is still EA. Now in Lincs but close to Peterborough/Wisbech etc. Going back to hay: I delivered some for a friend into a racing yard at £6.00 per bale and was mortified for them as I knew the person had bought it at £3 per bale! See I told you don't get me started. Can we put pics up

I'm so jealous of you lot being able to ride on Newmarket Heath. I did the Newmarket ride some years ago, and meant to look out for it this year and missed it. Try for (was about to say next year) this year.
What's the riding like in your area, I have a mare who's not overly happy in traffic, she's fine as long as they slow and give me room. But what is it with some drivers - are they blind or just stupid, just cos they've taken their foot off the accelerator they think they'e slowed. It makes me so mad. Have just bought the hi viz vest that looks like a police jacket, see if that makes any difference. Anyone else have traffic probs ?
Just think the nights are pulling out - honestly, roll on spring. How is everyone coping this winter? How's the hay situtation?
