or am I the only one to think its irresponsible to throw snow balls at your horse in the menage to encourage him to run!!! Obviously a couple on the yard thought it was fun, I didn't. Or am I just a bah humbug!!

Personally I wouldn't be encouraging a horse to run in a snow covered manege anyway, with or without snowballs!

Depends on the horse, we threw some around in the school while the horses were out the other day and the reaction was 'face, bovvered?' and I've had a snowball fight on horseback before ;D OTOH if the horses were really scared I think it'd be unfair.

I agree with melanie. But most horses I know would not appreciate it to say the least! However some just dont care. I personally wouldnt do it or like it done to my own horse though.

Throwing snowballs at eachother in the presence of a horse is different to throwing them AT the horse though!

Incompatible with despooking - you don't want your horse to run away from scary things as a rule! Not funny when they hurt/scare themselves when they fall over.

I too am with Catrin on this!! Wasn't there a story of a horse on here (before my time) that was a paintball target!! Sounds a bit similar to me!

Not just you! If someone threw snowballs at my horse I would be holding their heads in the icy water trough until their senses returned Encouraging a horse to run around in snow and ice is just plain stupid

i'm glad it isn't just me then, i actually thought it was a similar thing to chasing a horse and pelting stones at it- just as in maggies case. Not fun just mental torture for the horse . And the owner is an AII!!!! just goes to show qualifications been zilch if you haven't got the common sense to go with them!!! Pleased I am not a misery then given that I didn't stand around the menage thinking it was funny. poor horse, it didn't surprise me though I suppose, she got great pleasure in telling me that she hit him with the bridle when they got off a hack because he reared up half hour ago !!! She doesn't believe in natural horsemanship then clearly

And the fact she hit it to begin with, and why was it rearingin the first place!? Seriously some people need to be stripped of any qualifications they have imo!
