Word of warning to anyone who's thinking of walking to their horses:
Please take chocolate or alike with you
Wear layers so you can take off and put back on
Mobile phone fully charged
Some good grippy boots
Walked to mine today and it's a 3 mile round trip, I normally walk it and am quite fit, however, today I struggled. The snow takes out of you alot more than you think so please go prepared and take care.

Yeah, someone on our yard walked it yesterday as OH had the car cos his mum is dieing in hospital. So she walked. Good on her.
I live 5.5miles away from yard so could'nt walk. Managed to slowly drive there now tho. Takes 20-25mins for 8 min normal journey tho. But i get to see Caspar in the end.

From another perspective...
The snow has grounded me and, I suspect, the other RAs too. I can do my ponies with no problem - they're at home - but I have no work I can do at all. Zilch. It's just not safe to even think about it! Oh, the joys of being self employed...

i'm stuck indoors waiting for the council to fix my heating, again :<
walked the three mile journey each way to the horses yesterday, it ws lovely in the fresh snow but hard work, especially carrying bags of carrots and apples and an extra rug.
I dont' think I'll risk it today though because the snow is now packed and so slippery :< hate this weather

I have just done a 6 mile trek in my racing shoes that are very thin but have spikes on them, thought i'd thrown them out but found them in the garage. have never used them for running THEY WERE BRILLIANT !!! Only one slip which was tiny and not only that despite being mesh my feet stayed warm and dry even traipsing through mud and snow in the girls field I'm most impressed me

Liz i'm not self employed but do live on a country estate (we rent a cottage) so can't get out for days even weeks. My company doesn't pay for the shifts I don't do so I too will be struggling this month to pay the bills, it's horrendous isn't it?
Runningloon, how deep is your snow? surely you had soggy legs? our snow is almost up to the top of welly boots! Congrats on making it though ;D

snow is really deep here but the paths are trodden down to really slippery packed snow, hence the need for spikes avoided the deep snow where I could but I did have jeans and over trousers on so was as snug at the proverbial bug and the guys chopping up dead trees in the field had kindly created very flat tyre tracks that I followed most of the time hugs to you guys who will be affected financially :< but I still managed to step into a ditch mud up to my knee LOL

My usual transport on weekdays is a bike - so at the moment, I'm sometimes on foot and sometimes getting a lift part of the way with other people from the yard who live in the same direction. Also we're sharing jobs at our DIY yard so someone will feed and put out in the morning (if the're going out!!) and others will bring in/feed etc.
