I've got a 20year old cob with a bad dust allergy. Hes started devloping it about 6 years ago, I've had to soak his hay, but strangley the meadow hay he's on now is ok. He's always coughed on anything else. He can also cough in the summer, he's bright though and it doesn't seem to affect him.
One thing though I've found if I didn't dampen the hi fi lite when I used it that seemed to make him snort a lot and irritate it-does Hanni do this?

Hanni is on nice meadow hay (I made sure I bought good quality) also. Yeah I dampen his feed.

My old boy 33 gets a runny nose that would turn to an infection if he gets chilled. I have to have a med weight rug on him for the winter. It is mainly rain protection but the extra warmth helps. That said I am in soggy Snowdonia not sunny Oxon.

I would want to know if it was an infection or a dust allergy. If it is a dust allergy, management (really soaking hay, keeping bedding clear of allergens) can make a huge difference. My daughter's pony has been on a low dust system since she was four and now only coughs when the system breaks down for some reason.
