Well done Heather for bringing this to the right peoples' attention. Lets hope this unbelievable incident and the reaction it is causing will begin a sea change in attitudes the dressage world. I have everything crossed.

I have never seen so many posts on one topic on Classical Dressage forum in the States- there are quite a few trainers and judges in the membership and they are absolutely incandescent with rage at the treatment of this poor horse. And this, folks, is just the merest tip of the iceberg. This sort of thing, and far worse, goes on in the name of dressage training, on a daily basis. I know, I have seen it first hand. Dressage needs to clean up its act before it becomes fodder for the 'League Against Cruel Sports', rather than an art form. But then again, look what passes for art these days' an unmade bed, a pile of bricks, even a pile of horse s***, so what hope is there for art in dressage!? I'll keep you all updated as this unfolds, because I think this is going to be ongoing. Heather

Heather, well done for doing something. How many of us have looked at this and been appalled but don't take any action? I so hope this blatant cruelty can be stopped once and for all.
ETA have also emailed the owner for what it is worth.

Am with you 100% on this campaign heather, but don't agree with your art comparisons at all. "what passes for art these days' an unmade bed, a pile of bricks, even a pile of horse s***, so what hope is there for art in dressage." Those forms of art may not have any meaning to you and therefore you might think they're not good art and we're all entitled to an opinion, but that doesn't bear any comparison with producing a performance from a horse that involves terrible cruelty, thats abuse, not art although it may look like very good art hence this man was judged very highly, i believe he came third.

Agree art is v subjective and individual... However not long ago an ''artist'' found a load of malnourished dogs for an exhibition saying that was art. The poor things were tied up and not fed/watered & had dog food on the walls saying ''hunger'' or some such crap, and people went round and watched them die... This is obviously NOT art.. also think of Mr. Hurst displaying dead animals saying that's art....sick...these 2 are perhaps a better comparison, as a pile of bricks etc isn't harming anyone, and if people like it so be it!!

The comparison is very valid - great art, such as the production of a classical sculpture or painting - requires years of study, learning about anatomy and how to draw it, learning from the great masters. Great equitation is exactly the same. Skip over the basics, the groundwork, the scales of progress - go with the shortcuts and the gadgets, and what you end up with is a travesty without any value or beauty. (And art schools nowadays don't seem to bother teaching anyone to draw anymore.)
I'm so glad to hear that this horrible video clip has provoked so much outrage; this poor horse hasn't suffered in vain, if he did but know it.

I still havent watched all... if i was a spectator would have knocked him off and gave him a good kicking! Then rescue his poor horse & gallop off into the sunset (with no bridle!) ....ok maybe im dreaming now...
