Awful, awful, awful. What is that saying...'when force comes through the door, beauty goes out the window.'
That oaf riding looks more like a third-rate showjumper than a dressage rider, and as for these spurs - oh, that poor horse, he has nowhere to hide, no way of protecting himself from that abuse.
And people think racing is cruel???

News of it is spreading like wildfire, James. As many as possible need to email British Dressage with our disgust- write to: office@britishdressage.co.uk Nadja King at HFL is fired up and already acting, and I will do my best to drum up other support to fire at the FEI. This is simply not acceptable. For me, the sight of that flaccid, lifeless tongue sums up the resigned,deadened-to-feeling demeanour of that undoubtedly once proud, entire male. I would like to see the perpetrators emasculated in a similar manner, only the area wouldnt concentrate on the tongue. Heather

It is truly sad, I hope that this combination did not go on to win anything after this display.... although to be frank that horse deserves a medal for working so hard under duress..... It really pleases me that finally people are becoming more aware of how horses should be ridden and that they can be ridden with out force in competition too and it is a thing of real beauty, that is what i always believed it to be when i watched the greatest riders in harmony with their horses they didn't need gadgets, gizmos and oppressing displays of strength, the horses were briming with energy and floating underneath loving their work ...... well done Heather et al for all you are doing you definately have my full support.. X

This is absolutely disgusting The more that this can be publicised (before Sjef calls the lawyers in and the video is deleted) the better. Have Gerd Heuschmann, Philippe Karl etc been alerted to this?

And boy does that "rider" seem to fancy himself. That horse has had all natural expression wrung out of his paces. Definitely agree that change has to come from judges and stewards though. Gives dressage a bad name.

Absolutely disgusting. Feel sick to the stomach seeing this. That poor horse, all the fire in his belly gone, he looks defeated. In pain. And like he is screaming for help. Poor lad. Have e mailed.

Have Gerd Heuschmann, Philippe Karl etc been alerted to this? I dont think Janssen would DARE call in the lawyers this time- public feeling is running so high, that I think he would be hanged, drawn and quartered if he so much as tried to sue. I am emailing Derek to ask him to contact PK, and I am sending the video clip to Gerd's publisher, Isabella. She will undoubtedly also highlight it in her bi monthly mag, Piaffe. I truly think this bit of film will do more to disgrace the rollkur brigade than any campaign before. Heather

What a shame the man doesn't realise what an honest, noble horse he has there. There are many others that would have had him on the floor. Honestly, I could weep thinking about how much pain that poor horse must have been in.
I know their are many that defend rolkur and deny that it causes harm to the horse, but surely if their is even the tiniest bit of doubt, it should be banned until such time as a proper independant study can be carried out.

What an arrogant pr*ck!! There's just no words for the way he's treating the poor horse, and the way he just rides across, in front of and in the way of the others just sums up his god complex attitude!
And to think I felt bad today for losing my balance slightly and catching Snip's mouth everso slightly when he went forwards more enthusiatically than i expected....*angryangry*
