No offence taken in this corner of the southern hemisphere. Happy Summer Solstice. When I come to the southern hemisphere, I shall celebrate Christmas around June 21st. I don't know why more people don't. The warmest one I've had was at the usual time in Florida. One of the neighbour's gardens had artificial snow on the lawn, that was nice, not sure about the inflatable Santa who kept appearing out of the giant chimney stack in the middle of the lawn though, bit scary taking the dog out last thing at night!

Being a sort of C of E by baptism as a baby who never went to Church turned Roman Catholic by choice and now a bit of a Pagan who still goes to Mass from time to time and especially at Christmas and Easter ...... (whew! ) .................. I really like Catrin's post. Thanks Catrin. Here is my contribution - I was going to put it in a post on NH Chat but it can go here instead..... Solstice Prayer Silent night, Holy night, We celebrate returning light; Whether Sun or Son of God Christian and Pagan can unite.
On this night the whole year turns, The dark is gone when candle burns around the house; and we, with joy, can spread the love all mankind yearns. One of my customers was waiting for guests to come to a Yule party when I called last night and I will be doing a small Solstice Celebration at home this evening. The candles and crystals are set out. Very best of the season to all of you, it is nearly a year since I joined IHDG and I have enjoyed it immensely.

Catrin, there IS a custom called 'Christmas in July' or 'Yulefest', when people head to the Blue Mountains and celebrate a winter Christmas... mainly north European ex-pats, I expect!
I do miss the autumn and winter nights, the bright stars on frosty nights.... European Christmas and Pagan celebration of the seasons really don't work down here. Some things can't be transplanted and there is no indiginous equivalent.

Apart from this... :-)
AUSTRALIAN JINGLE BELLS
Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden Ute, Kicking up the dust, esky in the boot, Kelpie by my side, singing Christmas songs, It's Summer time and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs
Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut !, Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute.
Engine's getting hot; we dodge the kangaroos, The swaggie climbs aboard, he is welcome too. All the family's there, sitting by the pool, Christmas Day the Aussie way, by the barbecue.
[repeat chorus]
Come the afternoon, Grandpa has a doze, The kids and Uncle Bruce, are swimming in their clothes. The time comes 'round to go, we take the family snap, Pack the car and all shoot through, before the washing up.
[chorus]

Re Jane's post - we have to remember that 'thongs' in Ozzieland is 'flip-flops' here, so your eyes don't need to water!
I was singing that (to myself you inderstand) in a Rolf Harris accent. Well, it made me laugh. My colleagues are looking at me in a very odd way.....

seasonal greeting and pleasant Saturnalia for those who celebrate it, a festival which apparently involves singing carols door to door naked! Human sacrifice ,and plenty to drink. Imagine the CRB check on that! Boy hasn't life changed! Jesus of course has no fixed birth date or even reocorded which year, so in fact he may have been born on March 28th AD 4!
