This year has been busy as usual with interesting horses and ponies in training. I also did lecture demos for my local Riding Clubs and Pony Clubs (for which I gave my fee to www.swhp.co.uk one of the brilliant local Charity's)
A clinic in France was a definite highlight, it was great fun working with lovely horses and people who are keen to learn. Which all made my job easier along with fantastic organization from the clinic's host Susannah Pook, fingers crossed I will be back again in 2010.
It has been really good to catch up with the IH team, Monty, Kelly and listen to the heart rate monitor at Hartpury and Your Horse Live.
Some of the horses in training at the yard at the moment include a big Dales who came in because he was spooky and bucking he is a real champ and learns very quickly (don't they all)
A show pony stallion who has been untouched and is now 7yrs, a nervy colt and a 15hh mare who was born on the mountain and never been handled we managed to round her up with a herd of ponies on the mountain and get her to her new owners where she became accustomed to people and stables she is now 8yrs and here to learn about haltering and leading etc
Horses come and go a lot at the yard sadly you do get attached to them and it is hard to see them go but since all the owners visit regularly and are involved in their horses progress they are then able to continue the work at home.
I am looking forward to teaching on the IH Handling the Untouched Horse Course in Whitney tomorrow (my favorite course!)
I will keep you updated on the latest news from Old Shawls Farm
Hope your all enjoying your horses despite the rain
Better get back to it
Happy Trails
John ;D
PS: The latest addition to the farm is Rocco a Jack Russell puppy who is already learning the ropes from the old dogs
