Ride Round Britain.
That is quite a title we have come up with us DGers.
The vision the words paint is different for each of us as to what that actually means .....
It could mean .....
* round the coastline,
* a relay across or top to bottom of the mainland
* or riders in every county around Britain riding on the same day.
There are pros and cons with them all and we need to ascertain in this first year of trying such a big undertaking where in the country those who want to participate are, what experience of organisation there is and what is actually feasible to organise.
The logistics of relays are quite an undertaking and I think we could maybe use this year to ascertain , other then the well known and open bridleroutes, where in each county we could possibly have relays for future years if we want to use that option in the future .
The ethos of the event also would be inclusion of all the differing abilities / fitness / ages / horses engendered by the forum as a whole. From one mile in a school / paddock to 40 ( or more) miles off into the wild blue yonder …. more people can contribute with the formats presented here that were suggested by several people and in discussion with the other fundraiser bods thought to be financially viable
First of all great on you all for volunteering to organise or paartake in sponsored riding in your area.
First rule..... have FUN ;D
Basically it will be up to you and fellow DGers to decide what format the event will take place in your area, you know your area best and you can be as creative as you wish ……….the “ride” will not necessarily link to another area unless you want to involve a bridleroute that is shared ? eg the sabina way involves worcestershire AND herefordshire so riding towards meeting on the border is a possibility
Suggested formats …. if you have enough bods and potential participants you can mix and match lol
* Join forces with a fun ride / pleasure ride that’s already running. Contacts like BHS, Local Riding Clubs, Endurance Groups and Hunts / Pony Clubs. You can just get sponsored individually for taking part.
* collect list of names of interested DGers that want to hack out over that weekend from their own yard ……. They might have friends that want to join in and they can have sponsor forms too, they don’t have to be IH bods . Or several people meet up centrally and hack out from the hosts yard.
* If there are several DGers in your area ( or even link up with another area) that want to hack out for a longer distance You can organise a relay . You could arrange change over points to be livery yards / RDA centres / riding schools. Who knows they might wish to have a little party / event going on at the same time …. ;D ...... or already have an event on and the DG rider might be allowed to shake a bucket at the event.
This can take place over the two days but needs very careful planning of routes and coordination of riders. Numbers on road sections at any one time needs to be monitored !
* could make it a group pub ride !
* could have riders hack out to converge on a yard / riding school where have a party!
* little ones at yards/ riding schools could do sponsored laps round a paddock / school
* Non riders can bike / walk !!!!
Remember every single mile counts ...... and any other suggestions ideas..... lets have 'em
Sponsor forms can be centrally compiled and once the logo comp has ended and a logo chosen the file can be downloaded from here or emailed out to all organisers.
T shirts were also suggested ….. we have no funds to purchase t shirts to present to people participating or prepaid so that people can buy them via IH shop. There is an option whereby we can send the chosen RRB logo to a firm who will then put it on t shirts that individuals order on line. I will post a thread on that to ascertain interest later.
general comments and questions relevant to all areas can be put on this thread and if anyone asksa bout the ride on the general section thread they can be referred here.
If I get stumped by any questions I will refer to my mistress Lorraine who is of course she who must be obeyed
added
I have been asked about insurance.
Generally this is not an organised event like a fun ride, it is individuals riding out with friends with a common aim. Therefore we would hope that everyone doing so would be insured as a matter of course.
I will look into whether that should be highlighted on the sponsor forms ...... ask a legal bod to clarify whether inclusion or omission of reference to insurance confers any liability
