AMERICAN PIE ‘SIMPLY THE BEST’ IN SEIB
PRO-AM TREC CHALLENGE AT ROYAL WINDSOR
Twelve riders took on the SEIB Pro-Am Trec Challenge at Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday night and judging by the enthusiasm of the crowd there couldn’t have been a more popular winner than Monty Roberts Instructor and ‘Intelligent Horsemanship’ founder, Kelly Marks with her horse American Pie. BHS TREC is designed to demonstrate the horse’s confidence, courage, handiness, balance and surefootedness when negotiating obstacles that stimulate circumstances that may be encountered in the countryside.
Twelve points behind in second place was former Household Cavalry riding master and top event rider Major Richard Waygood. The other contestants included representatives from the FEI disciplines of Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing. For Dressage it’s Britain’s European hopeful Laura Bechtolsheimer and Spencer Wilton, National Dressage Champion 2007.
Tim Stockdale and Robert Whitaker flew the flag for Show Jumpers,. Accomplished riders Staff Corporal Rupert Hackman from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and Captain Harry Wallace from the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery were also in the line up as were the hot favourites star GB BHS TREC Team members Anna Weston and Anthea Kendrick.
Kelly, who rode her ‘former problem pony turned Champion’ American Pie was thrilled with the award and donated her £1,000 prize money to the Lambourn Riding for the Disabled. She said “having a wonderful horse like Pie to ride and having training from Monty Roberts seemed an unfair advantage somehow so I’m really happy this money can benefit a great cause. There was a wonderful atmosphere in the BHS marquee and among the competitors – many congratulations to the BHS and SEIB insurance for hosting such a great event”.
