I have posted recently about my friends elderly TB (30+), asking fro reiki/healing thoughts etc as hes not been so good with one thing and another. Anyway, he has been doing OK, only the other day reared up at the gate and galloped off when he was let out. Due to the bad weather and ice, my friend had left ours in today, so they had all had breakfast and had hay & water. We had arranged for another friend to put them out later if it was fit. Anyway, due to what seems to be a misunderstanding, YO had decided to turn the horse out. Unfortunately, the horse slipped on the ice before he got to the field. Without going into details of the whys and where fors of the situation and to cut a long story short, it ended up in the fire brigade coming out. The first ones didnt have specialist equipment, so they sent for another crew. 2 more engines came and they used airbags, hoses, hoist etc and got him back on his feet, as he just wasnt able to grip by himself. Vet was present and at one point did warn he would have to be PTS if they didnt get him up. Luckily, the firemen were very determined and wanted to keep trying different methods. Once he was up, he was a bit unsteady, but once he got going, his owner said, was tossing his head and pulling her around. He is understandably sore, has damaged muscle in his quarters, has knocked a tooth and has some little scrapes. He has had painkillers and was settled and eating tonight. Vet said he is like a cat with 9 lives. So if there is anyone who can send him more reiki - I think he needs it... and a bit of luck. Thanks for reading.

Whew! I do hope he's no worse than stiff and sore, but will send him what healing I can, anyway.
Re. the firemen - they are brilliant. I've seen them at work when one of our Shires fell in a massive ditch; mud up to his belly, and water half way up his neck. It looked desperate, but those firemen from the East Sussex Brigade didn't seem to know the word beaten. They were all over Jim like a rash until they got the slings in place - totally ignoring the risks to themselves - and didn't stop until Jim was out of the mud and heaved himself back on his feet.
At which point, the fireman who'd been in the thick of it (he was very small for a fireman) took a step back and said,
"Blimey! If I'd known he was that big, I wouldn't have got in that ditch!"
But you know, I bet he would have, anyway. They really are stars.
Best wishes,
Jack

I really MUST learn not to rush through reading a post...for some reason I read it as the YO had slipped over and needed the fire brigade, airbags and hoists to get back on his feet again....duh......

I think we often take our emergency services for granted in this country - and it's not until you see them doing something like this that you realise just how amazing and dedicated they are.
Healing thoughts heading your way Rosie.

They do a good job of horse rescue. Apprantly all areas must have an aminal rescue unit. The guys in Hampshire are often on the news and have really studied how rescue animals.
In a talk our vets arranged with the brigade they said that horses are the most dangerous clients
best wishes

Oh thank goodness the Firefighters got him back up on his feet rosie, so glad to hear he's back in the land of the living and around to fight another day!
And Yes,.. our firefighters are worth their weight in Gold bless 'em, and they won't give up..
My OH is a fireman and so is my little brother and I have heard some very distressing stories from the pair of them,.. but with very happy endings in most cases where animals in need of the fire brigade's help is concerned.
My fella actually announced a couple of nights ago to me that 'when it gets lighter at night can we go for a ride,.. i want you to teach me to ride'!!! So,.. i'll get him in the saddle soon enough and give him some lessons.
My little brother has also found that with me having a horse, it's helped him sooo much in his job over the years when it's come down to rescuing horses as he's been confident to work around horses and knows how to put a headcollar on, which can be quite baffling to most folk initially as you'll probably agree...! He said you'd be surprised just how frightened our fireman can be of the bigger animals that are in need of a helping hand when they get a shout... but it's their job and they get on with it... and afterwards they can be pretty shocked themselves at what they'd just done!!! Bless 'em..

Fire men are great aren't they - the summer before last we had a few out to rescue an old boy 30+ from a ditch, the firemen ended up down to their underwear!! whoar is all I can say to that - and thanks to them the old boy is still going strong!
