Having driven myself almost mad today, I've decided to do what my heart tells me and not buy the mare. If I need a lesson on a schoolmaster or a long hack on a bombproof horse I can pay for one, much less trouble than another horse and I would benefit from some instruction. I don't think I would deal with divided loyalties to Flynn's benefit, and I can't see myself ever selling him, so he would end up neglected in his training. IF things go pear shaped with Flynn in a year and I feel out of my depth I can reassess our relationship, but I think what I need is 100% commitment to the horse I have right now. I've arranged for him to have some SJ training for two weeks to get us back to the thursday night league he enjoyed so much with my friend John. I think that's money better spent. Thanks for helping me look at every angle of the issue DGers. Really, really helpful. I don't like the feeling of gun to the temple as I'm making these decisions, and despite what I feel right now, IF I buy again, there are other horses out there. (Don't you hate being grown up about things!)

I'm currently reading a book called "Hare brained, Tortoise Mind". It talks a lot about listening to what your intuition tells you. Our logical brain can only cope with a limited number of variables but our sub conscious brain can cope with lots more and, even though we don't feel comfortable trusting gut feel and intuition, it is more often than not very accurate. Sounds like you are listening to your intuition which is the right thing to do.

Thanks June. Actually another teller is being flooded with relief after having made the decision. Clearly on track. I feel so much better. I must look up that book, it sounds fascinating.

I think thats a very sensible decision Kanga :-) Put the time and funds into lessons or whatever you feel will help you in your training. :-)

Go with your gut feeling I bought a second horse so my daughter and I could ride together, but she hit her teens and has lost interest. I wouldn't pass up what the second horse has given me in a million years, but it's been a struggle at times financially and it would have been hard keeping both going without the help of my sharers.
