I want to escape the rat race. This is my dream no mortgage, no full time work, spend time with horses on own land, some animals and grow own veg.
I want a house and some land. where is the cheapest in the country

It exists in dreams and nirvana only i'm afraid!! Unless you win the lottery!! Just be happy and greatful for what you do have and consider those less fortunate people who have never been touched by animals that makes them glow inside like a lot of us are or those who are born into dire poverty or worse.
Happy New Year xx

Happy New Year xx I disagree. I have worked EXTREMELY hard since I graduated. And it looks like that will soon be paying off. OH is going back to uni this autumn. Once he graduates, we'll be in a position to move to somewhere where we can afford a few acres. Nothing grand, but it'll be ours. That first morning when I can have my first cup of tea of the day whilst chatting to my girl over the field gate will be the day when it finally feels like all the hardwork has been worth it.

I wish, one day I've been studying for 4 years at Uni to be a primary teacher. OH has just started a 4 yr part time degree in biomedical sciences with his work which will hopefullypay off in the long run but the idea of our first home is a godsend at the mo, let alone land!

Keep your eye on the prize, Toni. I never thought I'd be in a position to even contemplate having my horse(s) at home, but it's funny how things work out. I'm going to have to bust my backside off for the next few years, and it's going to mean moving 100s of miles away from friends & family in East Kent, but that dream of my own small-holding is what is keeping me going!

Echo Garry on Lincs being cheap
Have you considdered living in a large caravan? Look into housing for equestrian worker (or something like that) buy enough acreage for you and a couple more and offer some DIY livery. Bit of income for you too then with no real work.

it can happen
hubby and i have owned a little piece of shropshire since this time last year (well mortgaged so don't really own it yet as such). hubby is definitely still in the rat race paying for it unfortunately but we are fortunate to be able to afford for me to not work to give me time to look after our daughter at least for a while anyway
good luck
i hope you find somewhere

We have looked into this a lot! Living in London means you dream alot and it is definitely in the plan for a couple a years time. Linconshire seems to be the cheapest in England. Otherwise, there is always a fair amount on the market in Wales - Carmarthenshire in particular - places there with land for under 200k.
