We went eventing on the 14th, doing Training (95cm). We were leading after the dressage (76.47%) and the show-jumping, but didn't even get started on the cross-country, he had a big tantrum at jump 1 so I retired. Dressage pictures (if I look tense, it's because I bought that jacket when I was 12 and it's become rather tight!) Show-jumping I contacted a local rider who does Advanced eventing and is a friend of a friend to inquire about jumping lessons. They're going brilliantly, I've already got Tally jumping in a snaffle, which is rather amazing considering I used to be unable to stop in a pelham. He's going beautifully now, we jumped a course of 3'3"-3'6" jumps without a problem and getting beautiful strides in. It felt incredible! This is from when I had him in a kimblewick Really funky stride here! Much nicer! I also had a NH guy come out to teach me some techniques to combat his napping and rearing. I haven't tested them yet, but we shall see how they go. My jumping instructor said she was planning to take young horses down to an XC course so I could have an XC lesson in the new year, which would be great, plus I found some hacking buddies, hopefully.

Wow he's looking great! What a shame you had to withdraw when you were in the lead too. Looks like he did great in the dressage and jumping though.

Wow, where were you it looks like summer in the photos. Lovely It is! I'm from the lower North Island of New Zealand, so summer is just beginning to kick off with the fun fun extreme UV. The one down-side to summer, permanent sunburn!

The event was further south, down at Paekakariki. It is lovely down there, especially when they took down the EQC signs saying "You are 200m from a faultline". Those turned 'oh what nice hills' into 'I wonder how good the Civil Defence is here'.
It is nice there, especially on a nice day. It's not far from Centennial Highway, which is right along the sea side. It's the best place to drive when the wind is up because the waves break on the rocks and send spray over the road. It's about the only bit of road I like driving on the most when the weather is bad!

Fantastic photos, you look amazing in the dressage ones, I'm not surprised you were leading. I love that part of NZ, it makes me think of the Tellytubbies with all those lovely little grassy hills everywhere. I'm green with envy of you living there.
Good luck with resolving your XC issues, when you do, you'll be bringing home many prizes.

Fab photos and brilliant to hear your news. Shame about the XC but I'm sure it won't be long before you are well and truly in the ribbons.

Hi there, lovely pics and a beautiful horse! The hills look spectacular. I've not been to NZ yet, but it's in my plans for the next couple of years! Only know one person on the south island. Are you native or a "blow in" ?!

The XC issues I think it down to me, so hopefully a buzz round with my instructor should help to get us going. Having him in a snaffle is good as I feel that I can take a proper contact and actually ride, rather than sitting defensively, worrying about his mouth.
NZ is lovely, those hills aren't all that impressive compared with the big stuff down south or further north. The Tararuas dominate much of the skyline behind my town, especially when there's snow on the tops.
Jane, I'm a native! Kiwi born and bred and Kiwi to stay. I can't imagine living anywhere else.
