Bone chips are sometimes removed and sometimes left - depends if they interfere with the healing but on their own it's normally a good prognosis.
The horse I knew that was kicked had a bone chip and fracture. I mentioned it in an earlier post but 6 months box rest and she's now back in ridden work. Keeping things crossed for you...

My friend's horse recently had a bone chip removed from his coffin joint. He has had about four months box rest, with some controlled exercise, and he is now walking and trotting for about 45 mins and will hopefully be allowed limited turnout soon. The vets say there is no reason he should not return to full work in time.

Well..... It is just a bone chip fracture ! i'm smiling as this was the better of the two options and means that william doesn't need to be pts. It's still going to be hard on him though, As the monster is going to be on box rest for months vets are providing me with sedative and yet another lot of medication for him.. He will rattle !!!!!! his daily meds will now be ... steroids, 2 different anti biotics, and 2 different supps twice a day !! It's still a long way from being sorted, And the next few months are going to be VERY hard on both of us BUT at least he is with me and we can share the hardship together I just want to say a big thankyou to everyone for the supportive messages and well wishes, I really beleive that it helped to get him through !

That's good - at least that's fixable! Box rest will be a pain but he'll haev to get through it (I do recommend Sedalin - Shef was a nightmare on just 3 weeks box rest and needed sedalin to take the edge off her wall-climbing). I'm so pleased for you, and William too of course xx

gee gee thats fantastic news well considering what the other news could have been! bless him he is def living up to his name we will all hear him shouting FREEDOM!!!! ;D i am so pleased for you the box rest will be hard but they do resign themselves to it my boy had over a year on box rest due to a ruptured tendon in a bad place and the vets prognosis was not good vet said if she had her own stables, and it wouldnt cost much to keep him, and she had another horse she could ride in the mean time then she would give him the chance to recover rather than PTS well i didnt have any of that but there was a tiny chance so i owed it to him i had so much faith and love in that boy and he came right. SSSOOOOOOOOOOOOO get well soon william. its TLC heals them so i am sending him a gigantic hug and kiss!

I am so pleased it is fixable!!!! My NF had to be box rested for 6 weeks and he is definitely an outdoor boy too and a very energetic one I actually paid for him to be on full livery in a yard where there was a donkey and pony wandering around within the stable complex to keep him company...cost me a fortune but well worth it. Main reason was that my stables are within a barn so there is no view at all. After a period of time he just accepted it and was no bother. I did buy him a snack ball thing which he absolutely loved and it kept him occupied for ages and I also tied veg/fruit up and dangled it in his stable. Good luck and give William a hug for me!!!
