Oh gosh - I appreciate your replies but you know I feel that threatening lawyers etc. is a bit of a 'violent' approach (just an opinion and I'm certainly not criticising people that advised it - I appreciate your support). I don't even want to make an enemy of YH as I'm sure there are some very nice individuals that work there. However....... I would like them to point out there was a mistake and I didn't write that Q & A - I also like the idea of the free positive 2 page spread (thanks SuzieQ!) It does just make you think when you trust things that you read though - I shall never trust the gossip I read in the Daily Mail again (that IS a joke of course!!) Thanks for the support - I feel much better now! Also if anyone ever sees something like that again that's obviously 'not me' or hear I've said something 'odd' please would you email me so I get the chance to defend myself?! Kelly x

omg I am quite shocked, this is the sort of magazine I read to learn about horses when I 1st bought Autumn, and I had seen Kelly 'in the flesh' but not read that much - I may have been taken in? Kelly if you don't want a confrontation I can understand but you can definately use the situation to get some positive PR!

I'm not suprised at all (although it's dodgy they're associating you with pro-violence - are they not aware of the anti-whip campaign?!!!!). When I used to run the website (that I used to run) we would often amuse ourselves by reading stuff in YH that I had written, or letter/questions we'd had submitted which had so blatantly been lifted straight from our site.

Oh Kelly, thats just awful, how about we all write in and protest? would that be ok? Someone will be for the high jump at YH thats for sure! Do let us know what they say wont you? I wonder if another "trainer" did really say that or did they just make it up? sounds like something a certain Gary Witherford would say! eileen xxx

I would imagine that would be acceptable so long as you used a wipwop Seriously, it is a rather alarming event and they ought to print a correction at the very least

It is 'one of those things' but means you have work to do to rectify the situation.
You are being brought into disrepute. The irony is that the horse world and non-horse world don't actually see it as that. (retards)
(I would suggest a good 'knee-capper'. Extreme violence never hurt no-one.)

Oh gosh - I appreciate your replies but you know I feel that threatening lawyers etc. is a bit of a 'violent' approach Kelly x Oh you don't threaten lawyers - that's a waste of effort! ;D But you SHOULD talk to one. Obviously if the magazine apologises profusely and prints a correction (with at least as much prominence as was given to the original article) AND takes suitable steps to 'make it up to you', then you don't NEED to loose the lawyers. You can graciously accept their apologies etc. etc. BUT, what they have done is irresponsible journalism that could have serious effects on your reputation and your livelihood. Obviously anyone who is familiar with your work and your philosophy won't believe it. Anyone else probably will - after all, it's been published in a 'reputable' magazine. And if you DON'T take action, many people would interpret that as an admission that it's true.

You could wrangle loads and loads of free advertising out of this! Get them to promise free advertising for your next tour and get them to do a competition set by you along the lines of
How do I get my reluctant nappy pony to go forward? a) Whip it with a schooling whip b) Lots of help with a confident schoolmaster c) Dont bother, ride him in the menage ect ect............................ Then you can choose a winner who receives free tickets and help with a problem. You could also get advertising for your RA network.

How about we all email the magazine ourselves after seeing your post Kelly and so obviously disappointed the magazine could do such a thing and so anti IH attitude. So much so we are all threatening to stop purchase of their magazine in the future.
The editor is Editor, Nicola Dela-Croix 08700 623032 email nicola.dela-croix@emap.com
The sad thing is even with a retraction think of all those who have read it and not seen or truly experienced IH methods and seen the results or really apprecaited Kelly does all of this from the heart not paying lip service to the IH system. They will go away thinking I knew it was not really true how she worked. Look at what she said in that edition of YH. Its those people I feel sorry for. They have been given incorrect information. It makes you wonder how often this happens with other Specialist Trainers quoted in there.
I am for one going to email them tomorrow.

It is imperative that KM has the outlet of YH and it can all be smoothed over with a friendly chat.
Let's not over react.
I would ask to see copy before going to print in future though.
And a reaction from Intelligent Horsepeople via email wouldn't go a miss.
But keep it clean!

I have sent my email to the editor and I have kept it clean and to the point not rude but stating I am dissapointed to hear this report from Kelly herself on this forum. I have said I also do not feel I can purchase a magazine that does not publish advice truly given or factual. Neal I suggest you might also like to write and see if you can state in a smoth manner your own disappointment. Lets see if the power of word can fight the power of word!
