I couldnt begin to add it up. I spend faaar too much on them, but they deserve it, right Then, including competitions, well entries etc comes upto £50-£60 pm without my food or petrol, so that says it all really

Nooooooo - don't do it !!
Actually, i was such an idiot recently. Bob was chatting to someone about the horses ( very large pets ... he calls them ) and he said " Do you know it costs about £3,500 per year to keep each one ? " Now, instead of keeping my mouth shut, I found myself arguing the point and saying " Oh No, its much more than that nowadays "" Doh.... What a plonker ....

Good Lord, I wouldn't dare!
If I was buying in hay I know I would be spending the equivalent of 150 pounds a month on that alone! Beyond that, although I keep accounts I am not going to add it up.

Kpick...... the moral to the story is " Don;t be a smart a r s e " !!! Oh and of course, Bob now wants to know exactly how much the two of them are costing !!! I told him not to worry about it. Its a little less than the new BMW he so desparatly wanted. hehe

I avoid thinking about the total. Knew what it was in summer, worked it out and figured out how to justify one more horse But now its winter and I have three stabled I really don't want to work it out!

I sat down and worked it outlast year for me to keep my 6 at home and to compete 2 ponies at shows for the summer. Not allowing for emergance vet bill (god only knows how much Guys colic has cost this weekend!) I worked out to be comfortable and that is without buying new tack, I need £6500. Not bad seen as they are at home, but my mates now understand why I cant afford fancy hols!

Well do i start to add up mmmmm should i!!!!
I have 5 horses stabled They go through 4 bags of feed each 2 week at neally £6 a bag = £24.00 a fortnight so£48.00a month Shavings we get FREE but have to go for them every 2 weeks petrol £5+£5=£10.00 a month We make our own haylage and go through 1 bale in 7 days so 4 bales per month at £6 per bale = £24.00 a month Water mmmmmm depends how much they drink...? Fuel cost for traveling them about per month £30-£40. Thats all i can think of so total £122 a month. thats not with entry fee's for shows through the summer and for rug's etc..

I have to add it up for the accountant so that I can offset it. It means that Petra Perkins has to earn her keep by giving long reining and groundwork lessons. Of course, the New Forest ponies should cost me very little but as I worm them, have their feet trimmed, teeth done and feed them when they come home, they are more expensive than most. I love it on Dragon's Den when they say Turnover is Vanity; Profit is Sanity - perhaps I'd better just call a pony Profit and then at least I'll have one!
