I weighed it out once, then found a scoop to take that amount, or knew i needed 2 scoops of it etc.. thats the only way you can really figure out how many days a sack will last..

Bobby and Clover get ad lib haylage (Bobby's is soaked) so they are only get tiny amounts of hard feed. A couple of handfuls of SS Lucie Stalks a day plus half rations of Top Spec Anti Lam balancer each. The Lucie Stalks are lasting forever, the Top Spec about 35 days. This is the first year I have really cut back hard feed as they really don't need it - and they are both doing just fine.

For a 15.2 polo pony in medium work we are feeding 1kg of Alfa A Lite a day plus 500g of Top Spec Balancer plus a tablespoon of salt. So, a 20kg bag of Alfa A Lite lasts 20 days for one horse and a bag of Top Spec lasts 40 days.

June, what do you call medium work - how many hours per day, days per week? Just sounds quite a light diet for what I would call medium - 3 hours per day, 5 - 6 days per week - heavy work would be 4 - 6 per day, 5 1/2 days.

it really depends on how much feed you give and how many times a day?? a bag of feed will NORMALLY last me about 3 weeks? but that is really rough.

Difficult one that Sue because polo ponies do different work to most horses. Ours work 5 or 6 days a week and most of the work is in canter. If you read most horse feed bags they put polo in the hard work category but it most certainly wouldn't be categorised by the number of hours of work. It would be based on the amount of energy required. We play low goal polo so ours aren't doing the same workload as the high goal ponies, hence medium work. In summer they'd do between 8k and 10k in canter as their normal exercise on the days they aren't playing. They are out 24/7 on good grass and fed hay in the field when the grass goes.
We feed Simple Systems Linseed, and Top Spec Cool and Condition too to some of them, but I was trying to answer the original question about how long feed lasts. I don't know how long those last us as we vary it depending on whether or not the horses are keeping or losing condition.
