As the title...
I always thought when you "double dosed" you gave one wormer and then about a week later you gave the second to flush out any remaining worms. But I am being told it actually means giving two doses at once (i.e. two syringes, one after the other).
The truth is, I'd rather be with my horses than with most people. I'd rather scrub buckets than scrub dishes. I'd rather go to a tack shop than go to a shopping mall. I'd Rather clean a stall than clean my house, and I much prefer horse sh** to BULLSH**..
Yes - double dose is definately twice the normal dose at the same time. I just wanted to add that you only do this Strongid P or Pyratape P for tapeworm routinely twice per year or when you are introducing a new horse with no worming history. it is the active ingredient (pyrantel embonate) in these wormers which only work on tape worm at this higher dose. Wormers from other chemical groups should not be given as double dose, especially Equest which can be quite dangerous if overdosed. There are now some tapeworm wormers that don't need to be double dosed to be effective, they contain praziquantel and are often combined with other chemicals ie moxidectin - Equest Pramox, or ivermectin - Equimax.
I recommend that you get some advise from your vet or someone like westgate labs to make sure that you are optimising your worming programme for your situation.
