i have looked on the website and cant believe the prices of the horse courses, equipment and DVDs! shocking. Well good luck to them on that count - it is what it is potentially doing to horses that bugs me so greatly. Heather

Any normal horse owner could never afford such a thing though?! even if it would help them/the horse.

Must have been the old one finn cos the savvy club is still going. Is it? I thought all that was canned when the now defunct Parelli Centre moved to Wrexham, rebranded itself, sold up, and God only knows what they did next--I'm obviously totally out of touch ;D So--Bad THing About Parelli--totally inconsistent and fluid infrastructure that appears to mutate every twenty minutes, thereby confusing Finn *Bangs head on desk*

that it appears to have all the answers for people who just want to do the right thing by their horse
then end up doing probably the wrong thing for quite some time without realising it cos they can't afford the instructors fees/there aren't enough instructors nearby/clincs without taking out a mortgage\
that it's ok if you screw up your first horse while YOU learn the first 3 levels.
that once I took off the bullsnap on the 12 ft line I have to use a caribbeaner clip and it looks naff.
that I have to go back to using a leather headcollar because not everyone knows how to do up my rope halter at the yard and they usually get it wrong which I find IRRITATING, if I can learn how to tie a knot so can everyone else.

Agree with the blond bird in the sun visor thing.
Must be mega thick cos didn't get the calendar thing for several pages (does that make me a candidate for parelli?? LOL) but when i did get it, i giggled for ages.
I like to watch the TV demos and "pick and mix". If i think it makes sense, I'll have a go, If i think it's pants, i wont.
Carrot stick. HMMM. i wont use a stick, or whip of ANY description riding or lunging (not that i can do that at the moment cos the yard i am on won't allow lunging in the school), unfortunately i HAVE to use a whip whilst driving the stallions. but i am not a fan of using whips or sticks at all.
That stupid ERRRR they use when someone hasn't quite picked up when to do something, it's embarrassing and degrading to the person trying.
In fact, as a "show" yeah, as a method ERRRRRR.
Long live Monty and Kelly - for the sake of the horse!

I went to the conference and enjoyed it. Hated the commercial stuff and didnt like some of the people doing the demos ... there were some robots in there. The funny thing though was Pats horse wasnt a robot. Caspar did look a little lame to me and the mare had cysitis. I know that this is the wrong thread, but can I just say about the conference that it's very difficult to do the right thing by your horse in a demo situation... For example, my instructor was there with her horse and was playing at liberty with him. He looked a bit p*ssed off with her tbh from what I saw. I spoke to her afterwards and she agreed... SHe said that what she really needed to do to help him in that situation was send him away to have a really good run around, but with 6 or so other horses in the same arena, she really couldn't do it. So he stayed with her, but had his ears back most of the time. There was next to no warm up arena backstage, so she couldn't do it beforehand either - she was between a rock and a hard place... Also, Pat's horse Casper had been nursed through the last 6 months in order that he'd be able to come to England. He's had lameness issues before and is now retired from demoing. I don't know whether he's been retired completely or not... Also, Magic, Pat's mare, did not have cystitis... She was in season!! And as Casper is a stallion and was in the next stall to her 99% of the time, I think that she performed magnificently under the circs!! In order to redress the balance on this "bad things" thread.... hmmmm..... well....... I hate the fact that they're running courses at Stoneleigh that are supposed to be week long, but are, in fact, about 3 1/2 days.... grrr!!! Sorry, will go up the norty tree now.

The local Parelli instructor who went to see two New Forest ponies to halter train them, didn't ask the owner how far she had got, lassoed them in a steep field where they fled through electric fencing and then fastened the other end around a tree to stop the foal running. He had put the rope around the foal's tummy not it's neck and it ended up screaming upside down in a ditch. (As recommended by a local vet). Ah, must have missed this one too... Most unlike me Can I ask who this "Parelli instructor" was please... There aren't any near the new forest.... Ah, another thing I hate about Parelli - all the pretend-Parelli instructors that you hear about that have never even met Pat for God's sakes!!

Hate the fact that Parellie people seem to close their minds to the obvious - if P & L Parelli say it is good - it is god's law! My hacking buddy who is parelli minded told me today what a fabulous rider L Parelli is and she sits beautifully - sorry no way!

Ah, another thing I hate about Parelli - all the pretend-Parelli instructors that you hear about that have never even met Pat for God's sakes!! Oooh - I love 'em! There's one somewhere near us - don't know her name - and I've had two of her failures in to train. The owners are SO used to being ripped off for NO result that they think we're wonderful and recommend us all round town - I've had 8 extra schooling liveries so far as a result! ETA - sorry Sarah - I think that should have been in the GOOD thing about Parelli thread!
