Im suprised that you found them treating horses as individuals,I wouldnt say that was the case when I looked into it 9 years ago,but I do know there have been a lot of changes since then. It's definitely been emphasised a lot in the last year or so, especially since the introduction of the 'horsenalities'. Have to say as well that the Parelli person we had out was very good at reading the individual horses and tailoring the methods to suit.

I was stupid enough to listen to the derogatory threads (About robot horses and cost etc) which is why I deliberately never went to see any demo's. Finally went to see a free play day and saw lots of people having fun with their horses so asked if I could take the then Mad Malaga to one.I was accepted, showed how to get him under control and he is now Just Malaga and I'm now progressing at my own pace and doing well. The one thing that helped me let go of my past problems was the "If you don't feel safe don't get on" "There is nothing wrong with not getting on(or getting off)" For years I had felt a complete failure because I had not got back on my pony when I lost my nerve...I had been bought up with the "Get straight back on" frame of learning. Rather like Malaga's feelings when I got bumped by a car walking him I had not realised how much my sense of failure had affected me.Now I have "permission" to let go and say "No" if I don't feel safe to do something. I had done the "bombproofing" thing and my animals had learnt it well but they had always been just lessons, something you did to give confidence to your equine, now they are games and we are having fun and I'm now learning to look at things and find a way of using them to have fun.I'm looking foreward now to the riding bit (I was dreading the three hours a day of excersizing and constant figures of eight and circles I was made to do when I had lessons) I was watching the latest DVD on how to make arena work more fun and I'm now looking foreward to having a go. ;D

although Im suprised that you found them treating horses as individuals,I wouldnt say that was the case when I looked into it 9 years ago That's the best thing about making the rules, you don't have to follow them. Unless that is meant to be a "good" comment. That's why I own the norty corner.... I'm gone, I'm gone.

No arguments allowed - by Sarah Fox... PMSL.
I think the Parelli games are good when used in conjunction with clicker training. Otherwise not for me.

PMSL too!!! I know! I know!! Its working though isnt it?! I like that idea casper, when I did it I did a similar thing, reward based games and used my brain to tailor to the horse. I do think if you had an IH type person doing them it could just be an extra arrow for their bow. Anyhow thats my main comment on Parelli,I think it has shown here that there is some good stuff for people as long as they use their brain whilst they do it. ETA,apart from Yann,of course who is just being a male tart!

I like that parelli has 90 thousand plus followers that are all trying their best to be better at what they do, anyone who looks to NH/IH methods is looking at what they do and why they do it - that has to be a good thing! Exactly. If you're a horse owner struggling to find a solution to your problem, then Parelli is better than just reaching for another gadget/screaming/a good whack. And with a bit of luck, they'll move on from there to understanding that there are other ways of working, as Gemma says discovinging Monty, Kelly, Mark Rashid, etc. Sometimes your first step on a road can be a bit faltering, but a least it's the right direction, sort of, and that's good, isn't it?

Sadly I can't put anything on this thread because I always like to put a balanced arguement (LOL!) There are some things I like but lots that I don't. Parelli is very good for my business because I seem to get lots of horses for whom it has gone wrong. There, made it.
