Just wandering if anyone can reccommend an instructor in the Wiltshire area.
Am based in the middle of Calne, Devizes, Chippenham and Melksham (!!) so basically any of those directions is good for me - as long as not too far away!
(I also posted this under th South section, but didn't know how many people would look on there as often!)

Hi Licey - I'm guessing you want riding rather than ground work instruction so on that basis, try Mike Aylmore. He used to be one of Heather Moffetts working pupils and is a lovely rider. I've had a few lessons with him and he is a very good instructor, quiet but very capable. This is 'cut and paste' from a website hence the funny structure - good luck! Location: Wiltshire Name: Practically Classical Dressage Tel: 07779 634242 Date placed: 2.03.2007 Unlimited time advert Practically Classical Dressage Mike Aylmore & Marie Nixon. Freelance Schooling, teaching, competing & groundwork in Wilts, Berks, Oxon, Somerset & other counties. All horses & ponies welcome. Please visit our website www.freewebs.com/practicallyclassical

Well so far I haven't heard back from Mike Aylmore & Marie Nixon yet, but will keep trying. Have you got details for Fiona Foy arabheaven? Thanks for the recommendation

Fiona's website is www.fionafoy.co.uk. I would also recommend her highly but she is a serious dressage rider and trainer and expects a level of commitment from her pupils that she probably wouldn't get from me!!!

yes her contact details are on the website. after trying MANY instructors, fiona is the only one who I have found who can teach me stuff in a way I understand (plain english!) and she understands the relationship I have with zac, she would NEVER tell me to hit him with a whip, she teaches seat and leg aids, she recognises when the horse is tired and needs a walk. she teaches you at the level you want to be. dressage is something I like to do as zac is good at it, we are only prelim level, whereas I have seen her teach eventers and she can be pretty tough with them as they need results. depends what you want from it she charges 40 quid an hour but a lesson a month is enough to keep you going and practicing!!

I have lessons with Mike and he's made a huge difference to Heimdall and to my position - he's even got us doing sitting trot, which I had despaired at being able to achieve. He lives in Devon and comes up most weekends to do lessons. Understand he and Marie aren't together any more. He's a great instructor, able to explain things clearly, but also tells you why to do things, and why they work - which really helps me take it in.
