Can anyone suggest a good book for me. My mare will be foaling in March next year and this will be the first time for me and we are not sure about her. I am thinking about sending her back to the stud to have the foal although it will be quite expensive. I am looking for a book which covers the expectant mare; foaling and care of mare and foal. Thanks

I second Troop's recommendation. Phyllis Lose's books are excellent - but keep either a bottle of Valium or a stiff drink handy as they will give you the heebies about everything that can potentially go wrong !
The Foal In The Womb Author: A W Marrable Publisher: J.A.Allen & Co Ltd; Reprinted Ed edition (1 Oct 1999) Language English ISBN-10: 0851315933 ISBN-13: 978-0851315935
is also a great little illustrated guide to what's going on inside your mare.
Best of luck with your prospective little one !

I have have most books written on foaling and the one that stands out , head and shoulders above all the others is "From Foal to Full Grown" by Janet Lorch. ( Of the Muschamp Stud) I have been recommending it on here for three years and many of the DG foals have been born following instructions from this book. It is easy to understand by a novice breeder, yet still an essential guide book for one with experience, who may suddenly have a panic at something out of the norm, and her worming plan for foals makes a REAL difference to their health in the early days.!!! Do have a read ;D

Thanks everyone. I already have from foal to full grown and have now ordered blessed are the brood mares as this one seems to cover everything I need to know.
