I would take a very dim view of any stallion or colt that I unexpectedly found in my fields. Regardless of their origon, or the age of my mares !

So would I Jackie. Whatever the horse's origin, if someone doesn't want to castrate their colt, it is their responsibility to ensure that colt is secure and complety unable to get in with anybody else's horses. To be perfectly honest, I am at a loss to know why any rescue horse or ensuing foal would be allowed to remain entire beyond a few weeks of ownership or at the most a year in the case of a foal . They just aren't going to be Stallion material, so what is the point?

It very much seemed that you were having a dig at the French rescues and in particular the person who paid for these horses to be rescued. It has nothing to do with her and everything to do with the owner of the colt you are talking about who I was told is your yard owner It was a very strange thread that you posted....most people would speak directly to whoever the owner is.

How unnecessary. Now it just sounds like you have a vendetta. Perhaps speaking to the owner of the colt on your yard might be more productive.

Maybe if speaking to the owner of the colt is too difficult you could print out this thread and give it to him, I am sure he would understand, especially since he is your yard owner.

I don't think there is any indication of a vendetta against French imports here. The question, purely and simply, is, would you expect to find or condone someone else's colt or stallion serving your mare/s ? Ask yourselves that question. I suspect the answer will be a resounding NO.

jackie, do you mean you think all colts should be castrated unless they are stallion material and those that are should be kept under the care and control of their owners? If so stop going on about french this and french that.

tl, to my mind, it is abundantly clear that this IS about the french horses in particular and not about escaping colts. you speak to the owners about escaping colts, you don't get on your soap box on a forum about it, what would be the point?

Oh please jackie, why make so much bother about it - the owner cannot see this, go and speak to him!! The colt is his responsibility!! I don't see the point of posting it on here - twice!! Unless you deliberately wanted someone who goes on here to see it? Who is not the person you should be talking to btw.
Anyway, this thread will probably be locked soon now ;D ;D

I would presume that Jackie has spoken to the owner. I most certainly would have done.
I wonder whether the owner is responsible enough to own colts ?

I wonder whether the owner is responsible enough to own colts ? I would think the answer to that is glaringly obvious ! I really don't see what all this stuff about a " french vendetta" is. Jackie is very concerned about her elderly mares and rightly so. The fact that she referred to this colt as french is because it is! If it was an Arab colt, or a TB colt, or a Highland colt, and she had described it as such, would there be all this outcry?? Why is everyone so sensitive about her calling this colt french, if it is French---------------so would I if I didn't know it's precise breeding, and I knew where it came from. People on this board often complain about things and events that annoy them, upset them, cause a danger to themselves or their horses. More often than not the person responsible will never read it, but it makes us all feel better to vent our feelings amongst people whom we hope will understand, and have sympathy for us and the situation we are in. What a shame it isn't the case here.
