Does it have to involve carrots?

please may I have another go??
Imagine a figure of eight ..... no carrots this time!!
I am taking it for granted that both horse and rider are happy in canter and well balanced.
First go to the right and notice the right hand and shoulder are leading and the left hand and shoulder are back towards the hindquarters. The riders position is in the same position as the horse to obtain the right lead. As you come to the left change body position so your left hand and shoulder are leading and the right hand and shoulder are back. Repeat this another couple of times then go for a cup of coffee and a choccy biscuit while your horse eats a low sugar snack.

..... it was very ih Did I ask for IH? Altho', interesting concept, 1 bonus point - maybe next time I'll ask for an explanation according to the style of Xenophon. Butterfly! Honestly. 10 for brevity (so it stays the same), 2 for format. 1 bonus for considering the horse's feelings after the ordeal.

ok, take a deep breath, here goes... For the purposes of my explanation, we are on the right canter lead changing to left. Establish nicely balanced canter to right, asking for gentle bend with right rein, supporting outside of bend with left rein and leg (behind girth), weight to left seatbone freeing inside shoulder. Change rein across short diagonal maintaining bend as stated. Approaching other side, change bend by moving weight to right seatbone, asking for gentle bend with left rein, bringing left leg forward and right leg back, apply left leg as canter stride 'lifts' (ie as right hind leg come under ready to start next stride) in an 'inwards and upwards' manner, asking for the lead leg to change. Horse is balanced and in right position to oblige easily and lightly, changing stride from the quarters forward, bend and balance are correct to canter away on left lead. Clear as mud! Cobby x P.S. do I get some late bravery points as this is my very first post on IHDG?

Cobby,
Welcome! 10 for brevity, 4 for format, 5 bonus bravery points.
Can't you just tell it's raining - I should be doing evening stables and I keep saying to myself, I'll just see if it stops.......

Well Sue, Next time I get an email asking for my take on a given movement I may have to say s*d off . I've been sooo good and not looked at this thread as Auntie Sue told me I mustn't! Tonight I think, well, only a few hours to go, a little peep won't hurt. Imagine my dismay when I find Heather and just about everyone else is having a party in the sin bin So, in order to join you immediately here goes... Achieve canter on right rein by shouting 'sausage', make a diversion across the next diagonal shouting 'egg' over X.....et voila (as us frog residents say) you have a flying change. Sue I do hope you remember Dietz!!! OK so NOW put me in the naughty corner, I have over three hours to go and I'm already half way down the bottle of wine (WHY is it so cheap here???) so I need some friends to play with whilst I sit it out. Trudi ps, why Mrs Whitmore thought I might know is an absolute mystery but with luck and at least three more glasses of vino I may wing it.
