Hiya yes I'm the hadleigh end of leigh, not far off the broadway! my neds are in Hockley, well, between Hockley and Hullbridge, and yes have spaces. No winter turnout, but I haven't found anywhere that does though having stallion does make livery tricky ANYWHERE!!! far as I know right now, Brook's are full for winter, but might have space next spring, Jotmans turnover is very high (implies some problems to me, but that is just an opinion!) but worth a try for somewhere to go when you first get back. Good luck C x

Yes Jotmans have always had a quick turn over but then its a big yrd, the sister yrd to Jotmans is Frelins in Woodham-Ferries the best yrd out of the three that the Swifts own, have 98 acres of land and so have all year turn out, with all facilities you could imagine. I was stabled there for 4 yrs.

Golly, excuse me a moment while I trot off down memory lane. I'm from South Benfleet originally, many years ago, I remember Jotmans when it was a dairy farm, I was friends with the farmers daughter, Georgina. I kept my ponies in a field at the top of Thundersley, and we used to ride through those woods, The Glen?, there was a riding school around there somewhere, run by someone called Shirley. Are there still horse shows at Runymeade? I used to ride over to them along the London Road, get eliminated in the jumping, win just about everything in the gymkhana,(our brief moment of glory!!), sigh dreamily over a boy called Stephen Birkenshaw and hurtle home at dusk covered in rosettes with a silly grin on my face.
Happy days, sorry, I'll shutup now

I can't remember Karen, but I do remember Mo's, now you mention it. I once rode an ex racehorse in the Glen when I was about 13. He'd been so quiet all the way there, I got to the bottom of the hill and touched my legs to his sides and he went up the hill like a rocket, leaving me sitting on the ground. It took me three hours to catch him.
Do you remember Pam Bannister and Dicky Brown, the horse dealers?

LOL Khan have I REALLY got to put my age on here!! Oh the humiliation....Oh OK then, I'm 50 something.
We used to live across the lane from Pam's old place in Hill Road when I was a toddler. I used to toddle over the lane on my own, I was about 3, and she would lift me up on to whatever pony or horse she had out in the yard at the time, I seem to have spent all my childhood at her yard......She owned a lovely cob with a docked tail called Lady Jane Grey, and a beautiful grey arab mare called Candy Star, which she showjumped. Dickie was around all the time....I could never understand a word he said. Pam had the most amazing black hair which she wore in a plait over her shoulder, and she always wore here gold sovereign Romany earrings. My parents bought my first pony from her (like they had a choice!!!) he was a black Dartmoor called Goblin. I'd been adopted as a baby, and everyone thought that I was Pam's secret love child as I had black hair like her, and a passion for horses. I do know that Pam went on to have a daugher..Rebecca?.....and I know that Dickie died and there was a huge funeral for him, followed by a punch up, because my parents told me about it.
Trying to think of who else I knew. There were some people at Daws Heath, Ray somebody? My farrier was called Mr. Kerry, he was absolutely ancient. Pat Sullivan. Christopher Murray. Paul Meakins. Wasn't there a stables at the other end of Runnymeade owned by an elderly man who drove hackney ponies? If we're not of a similar age I shouldn't think these names would mean much, but you never know....
I spoke to Pam by phone about 10 years ago. I don't think we'd spoken for about 35 years, within minutes she was trying to sell me 'a nice li'l pony, just your sort, 'es about 13 'ands', so she obviously thought I was still about 10 years old ;D

I'm living on Exmoor now, having recently moved here from Bath..I was there for about 30 years.
You don't mean to say that Pam is STILL a dealer? Blimey. And didn't her daughter move to Spain?

Thanks very much but it wont be long now before it all goes in all directions as I was 54 2 weeks ago and beginning to feel it. Not sure about her daughter, but I do remember a close friend of hers Nicky whom I met when stabled at Frelins in Woodham Ferries (Jotmans sister yard)she did say something about her moving out here. But lost touch with Nicky she was on this forum but cant remember her user name. ???O well I'm coming home for a few days in November to stay with my sis in Hulbridge so will probably pick up on all the gossip then. So lets keep in touch. xxxxx
