Hellooooooo!!!!! I'm currently in London, but will be moving to Ashtead in Surrey within the month! (Just waiting for the mortgage chap to call as I type!!) So... A question or all you lovely Surrey people: Where are the best Horsey Places in the county? I'm right slap bang on the end of Epsom Downs, so there MUST be good riding schools/hacks, etc there!!

Hi B13, i am in Bookham so will be just down the road from you really. As for good riding, i used to ride around Ranmore and Wisley areas. Was good but can't ride my horse anymore. Not sure of the riding over Ashtead \ Epsom way though but i expect there is loads.

B13 - there's loads of fantastic hacking on Epsom Downs it's fantastic (so long as your horse doesn't mind toy airplanes and kites flying around!). There's also Headley Heath, Walton Heath, Banstead Downs etc etc so really is a good place to be near. Unfortunately the draw back is the cost of livery or riding lessons - full livery in prime location is in the region of £150-£180/ week and riding lessons at a decent approved yard will be around £30 for a group lesson. example (hacking from here is excellent) www.wildwoodsriding.co.uk/centre.asp

Thanks folks!! I'm still riding at my 'usual' riding school in Wimbledon (WHY does it take an hour to drive TEN MILES from Ashtead to Wimbledon? Hee!!!) but in the summer, it would be nice to 'supplement' my weekly ride with a hack or two, so I might very well have a nosey at Wild Wood Riding when the sun FINALLY comes out from wherever it's been hiding!!

gosh I have been abscent so long and now a few of u are around. Farnham is 15 mins from me so that is good. So who has been trying out natural horsemanship routines? Did the tarpaulin with my youngster she was fine so decided to fill it with water as she didnt like puddles and with a few attempts she was ok but preferred to wear it on her back no problem...how about that a baby who likes tarpaulin, I found it funny.....I am learning to ride Western and like the natural way better than English mind you it isn't funny when you make the noise wrong from a click sound to kiss and forget which you want, as one is for a trot the other for canter.....ooops.....

HAYWARDS HEATH. hey just outside Mayfield is a great Western Riding Training yard for those who want to have a go at something a little more chilled styled and in harmony. If interested I will let you know where, the trainer also teaches those of you who prefer English....
Also Uckfield, is another place I have been to a Western Centre as you can tell I am really keen on Western, bought the boots, hat, have the youngster now waiting to have some real fun especially doing a spin with my head that is easy.....

Even though I have lived South Farnham Surrey for last 3 years I am a Berkshire lass; well Cookham really nr Henley, Marlow those are the nicer places, if I say Slough or Reading most of u will know which area to look on the map. Surrey is just great the riding out of this world, even though here short time I already know Hampshire, on my doorstep, and getting to know West Sussex well. I have been to Hastings too and know how to get lost finding places. If anyone would like to tell me how on earth can you find an instructor that is sympathetic and doesnt scream instructions? Hey has anyone been on the Mary Wanless courses, I did last year, I cried after 3 days worn out, but learnt a lot this is English though; so I can understand the concepts and use it for Western too; except trainers, instructors wonder what the hell I am doing 'bearing down' or dissentizing my youngster or doing communication things; are we who look towards more natural understand weird or what? ?? what is your experience? love to learn if I am alone with all this.......promise not be so abscent from the website.....will talk to you from now on.......
