Well, all of a sudden Guinevere has bagged up! She has got huge titties!!!! Her belly is enormous. Will take photos and post. So from bagging up to delivery - how long? Do we know where I can find out who daddy might be?

Oh no! Just what you didnt need. Have a read of the pics of Bonita thread, several experienced peeps gave us good advice on there. Is she waxing up yet? I dont think you will find out who daddy is but I suspect it will be a large cobby type as they make for foals with more meat on them.

Mares usually start to bag up around 8 weeks before foaling, ( but don't always follow the book lol) They don't always wax up but the bag usually ( not always) looks huge to the point of bursting and shiny just before foaling. If she's only just started to bag up, you should have a while yet. A mare who has foaled before will always have much bigger teats during the process than a maiden mare. Hope that helps.

Thank you. They were huge to the point of bursting since they came up - but still no sign of baby. She is pretty big though!!! My rising 2 year old filly insists on being in with Guinevere. I have removed her from G's field a number of times, and within minutes she has jumped the fence and is happily at G's side. :s

It's fine for Guinevere to have company until she actually foals. ---------------then she will want to be alone with her baby for a few weeks, and any former companion will be at risk, as will the foal if it gets between a cross mummy and her perceived rival

You will find a way. Foals are so precious, we have to go out of our way to protect them.

Well, i believe she has waxed up! She has an inch long piece of wax from each nipple and she is actually dripping milk! She is out as she is not happy in stable. So we have opened up all our fields bar one (which the rest are in). So there are hedges on all sides. She is pacing non-stop and is not that hungry for her bucket feed. So ... how long from waxing up to the birth? Hubby is on hourly observation all night

Ooooh, I am pretty sure you will have a foal tonight....good luck! Waxing and dripping are signs of imminent birth. Hope it's warmer where you are than it is here!
