Excuse my ignorance, but were the horses you rescued running with stallions and just left to be bred willy nilly? (wrong phrase perhaps).

yes would seem to be the answer to that. To the meat man it would be irrelevant whether they were colts geldings and mares together as they mostly don't live long enough for it to matter unfortunately

nicely phrased catg! It may be that, but could also be they were intentionally in foal as I did hear that they got better prices if they were, many of the mares appear to have been brood mares that were presumably breding for the meat trade annually too.

had lady vet out last night for the girls. wanted to get them checked as going away in 2 weeks. going with what info we have on roxanne as in no idea, vet said that in her opinion roxy is due in about 4/5 weeks or could poss be sooner! although unlikely as there are no signs of bagging up. said it would probably mid to end march and would be very surprised if the foal was still there by april. both girls she was certain had had foals before so hopfefully should be no problems. However I have asked the vet if she could be on standby once things start to happen as I would prefer it if she was there when it kicks off even though it is more than likely that she will have it in the middle of the night on her own with no problems(please roxanne?) she is very happy at the moment being fussed over going out all day in the field with bonita then coming in at night and loads of food- she is slighltly more underweight than bonita so can eat whatever she wants so I have asked roxanne to please please wait until I get back on the 15th march. ;D she is very good to handle- and as chris sarahs husband you could lead roxanne with just a piece of string!

I bet they all have the same stallion - bit of a coincidence they are all bagging-up together

Well as you all probably know roxanne had her foal last sat about 11pm, a girl called her Star ;D it all went really well luckily. the only signs that she gave us was that in the morning when I turned her out she spent about half an hour pacing the fence and calling to me, she normally puts her head and eats I went back to check her and she was fine. in the evening she was her usual self, no waxing , nothing. then we noticed her lying down on the web cam about 9.30 and then it started amazingly quick and no complications. keeping them both in their stable at the moment as the weather has been so bad, but hopefully soon they will be in their own field, just have to get star used to elec fencing. only thing is that roxanne has been very proctective, she is normally very placid and will let you do anything but we have to tread carefully at the moment. just waitng for bonita now ;D
