Sarah, I've just been reading through this thread and I on't wish to be alarmist but I've read that you have had your mare sedated to do her feet. PLEASE don't do this again, or to any of the others you suspect may be in foal. ACP or any other form of sedation slows the flow of blood to the feotus and can be very dangerous.

Hi SS3, Yes we were aware of that when we did them,as they were done iv by the vet,but at that time we didnt think they were in foal.Elli was actually sedated to treat a horrific wound on her leg which was essential, she was given an internal at the time and as we thought they were due last year if atall we decided ( wrongly!) that they werent,as they should all have foaled by july at the very latest given their origins. But anyway, dont worry,we certainly wont be doing it again now that we know, and thanks for the advice.

They are all well and content catg, thank you.I have them stabled at night with daily turnout and on surelimb at SS3s recommendation. They all seem to be ballooning at a daily rate, but no signs of waxing up or anything else as yet.

Famous last words, but it is very unlikely that any of the french mares started cycling much before late March, early April, if as early as that. It's not warm at night even in Spain, and they won't have been done especially well .TB's have to have lights and heat lamps to bring them in season in Feb, so I doubt the rescue mares will be due much before March, if then. At any rate, I won't be here in Feb, so if I'm wrong you can't blame me lol. ;D

Hi SS3,
I think you are probably right, from all the pics people posted and all the reading that I have suddenly been forced to do I think probably another month,I wouldnt think it would be much longer though. It is apparently common to have January foals in the more southern areas of Spain, although as my only interest has been in quality horses I wouldnt know if that was natural or promoted the way the tbs are over here. Mind you,we do have a little tart of an english mare very much in season here today so....!!!

Hey Sarah,You're not the only one that's got a mare in season... Lancia came into season a couple of days ago, lol! It just goes to show you can't be certain of anything, although perhaps it's because we've had such a mild winter even though it's been so flippin wet!

not wanting to keep you up at night sarah LOL but the thing is we dont know where these horses were before they went to the meat farm so if they were further south then you could have some early foals although i hope they both hang on for better weather!

What I find odd is that Maybelline is soooo huge but she still had a well developed bag when she came in August so I think had been feeding a foal. So unless that foal was born VERY early she can't be due to have this year's foal for a couple of months ( I hope). I am now scared it could be twins again cos she is so large.

When I last looked on the Equine Section website there had been some foals born already this year. So it is possible it could be sooner than would usually be the case.

Dizzy,Im sorry I mentioned twins! Its pretty rare isnt it? I think they just look big as they have bred lots before. I do hope they are going to give some signs when they are close, still nothing yet,but like dizzys girl they are pretty big! We cant very well sit up all night for the next two months though can we?!
