Bailey is still not rugged and is plenty warm enough still, but you must go by your horses and do what they need not what others say. Last year Bailey was in poor condition and didn't have the weight to keep him warm. I imagine despite the condition that Rose and Tila have put on since you have had them they are not overly well covered. Add to that Tila is old and the weather they have been used to is warmer than here, then I'm not surprised that they appreciate the extra warmth of a rug. You'll just have to play it by ear, if they sweat up they're too hot, if they're cold they need warmer rugs! Sounds like you have worked that out already though.
Oh yes, more pics please.

Hey there!! I'm so sorry I have promised pics and havent bothered, but I have a very valid reason for it..... was driving up to feed neddies couple of days ago and someone decided to pull out of a farm and proceed to drive straight into me, so it was a head on collision, my jeep is wrecked!! aggghhh and I have been so sore with wiplash etc, but no bones broke.. anyway Rose and Tila are doing great, there still out, Rose is thriving, I was just talking to a girl at the yard tonight and she was saying that she was hacking out the other day and watched Rose (who was at the top of a hill) standing up on her back legs like a pencil!! very excited to see a new horsey hacking past, Rose has really bonded with a funny little Arab pony called Omar, hes only a baby too, and they love playing together, shes really full of beans now, shes enjoying her time out with the herd. Tila is doing well also, although earlier when I left I was a bit worried about her, I've no real reason to say this, shes warm and contented, but I get the feeling shes wants to come in for a lie down.. poor girl... I'm a real worrier when its comes to Tila, I love them both but Rose is the hardy one now, Tila seems a bit fragile these days, if it gets icey atall I'll bring them in for a while but for now its still not freezing over here, just cold and wet.. and muddy!! anyway, I shall take some pics tomorrow if it stops raining for an hour!! typical northern ireland weather!! moan moan.. xx

Hi again!!! Just a short one... mmm I think, Rose and Tila are fine...
Rose first, well... I have decided to bring them in at night, so they are back across the road and very contented... Rose is great, she was beginning to revert back to being a little wilder, I suppose a bit more like a normal two year old which is great, however she was not as happy being handled out in the field and it was getting inconvienient in many ways... so I brought them over last week and we had a storm anyway, they were up to there knees in slush.. they have settled back into there stables really well, Rose is happy for me to potter around with her feet again, and shes loving the attention, she is really well behaved at leading now, initially I couldnt lead her and Tila out seperately they both stressed so much.. but we're past that now and they both lead out perfectly nose to shoulder..... I've put a warmer rug on Rose because her wieght gain pretty much stopped, but she hasnt went back the way.. the first night after bringing her in, after a feed, groom and a scratch she lay down and went fast asleep while I watched her...
Tila is doing really well, her copd is ok I suppose, she is coughing a bit after a gallop or play with Rose but its not too bad, I'll be getting the vet after xmas to listen in to her again... she is on rubber mats with a bit of paper, I cant have shavings or the cough and nose willl start... she absolutely loves being groomed, she'l stop eating and just fall asleep while I'm grooming her, then when I'm done she finishes her haylage, she really appreciates everything sooo much, I just love her to bits, they have both bonded with other horses which helps loads... Tilas wearing a Rambo wug and Rose is in a supreme, so there really comfortable espeically with Rose being still a bit on the boney side!! Rose hates Rory (the horse on the other side to her) he persists in popping over for a nosey and when I'm in with Rose she gets really angry with him, I think I'll swap her and Tila around sometime soon... Anyway all in all, there great, healthyish.... lol and happy, contented and loving there routine.. so I'm really happy with that... I'll post pics very soon...

They've definitely fallen on their feet with you! It means more seeing them so contented after what they have been through, I know when I look at Bailey now and think back to the pathetic underweight, worm ridden thing he was was it is so good to see him so alive. I've finally put a rug on him now as they were forecasting rain and wind here along with the freezing temperature. But of course the rain hasn't come and he's grown out of his rug since I got it cleaned 2 months ago. Oh well, another Christmas present coming up...

Ok just thought I'd come in for a bit of advice, but no rush, and I can deal with this, but I'm always up for some advice when it comes to my two, Rose has taken to bitting (and no she is not getting fed from the hand), same thing every day, when I put her headcollar on in the morning to bring her out to the field and as soon as she steps outside the stable shes bitting (bit like playful but edgeing on the side of aggressive), after a few strides she stops and behaves very well, leads beautifully, she doesnt do this at 6.30 in the evening when shes waiting on coming in for her dinner though!! stands like a little lamb while I put her headcollar on in the dark!! mmmmmm I feel well able to deal with her and I'm sure shes just trying to assert herself a bit.. what do yous think? xxx (oh and merry xmas, arnt I sad this time on xmas day lol)

I think shes a cheeky miss,Tia! I would guess that perhaps she wants to get to the field quicker than your little human legs are taking her and is venting her frustration? I would just be blocking and pushing her head away,I wouldnt use my voice unless she was being quite aggressive, hopefully she will soon get bored if she gets no result.Sounds to me like fristration/atention seeking behaviour, combined with testing the boundaries.

hi tia, natalies pony does this when he was waiting to get out of his stable in the mornings as i was putting his headcollar on he would sideswipe trying to bite i did the same as sarah said i pushed his head away and ignored it, i think if i made a big deal out of it he would keep on doing it he did this because he wanted out and i wasn,t fast enough in getting him out but i still made him go at my pace naughty rose

Maybe something else to consider is breaking your routine of what leads up to this biting and, at the same time, taking control of things before she does. So if, as you say, she starts as soon as you get out of the stable, I'd think about putting her headcollar on as usual, then doing a bit of leading in her stable, asking her to back up, stand still, etc. Then, as you take her from her stable, take control again. Walk forwards one step at a time. If you think she's nipping out of impatience to get to the field or through an attempt to assert herself, then this will also make sure she's not getting what she wants through that particular behaviour. When she walks nicely, you can continue forwards. If she nips, then you go back into her stable. You can do all this as softly as you can, it's not a battle, just a statement that you are making these decisions, not her.
Do let us know how you get on.

Great advice there liz! I think Tia already insists they lead behind the shoulder, but that is worth insisting ( nicely!) on too,if you arent,Tia.
