thanks gill and melissa. I will need to reorganise the setup a bit first unfortunately though as her stable is behind guiness so would need to have guiness out first to leave her with the door open, otherwise would have them in together most likely! It may be the best way though as then I will have room to continue with the leading outside too.

yaaaay!!! got elly to come out of the barn today!!! gentle persuasion and a bit of time did the trick,so pleased with her. The bad news is that I was able to get a proper look at her lower legs and feet as she will now hold them up for more than half a second, there seems to be some type of mud fever like infection around the back of her pasterns and I think she may have infection running up her lower leg from it as it seems a bit swollen.I turned her out in case it was filled from standing in,but it is still there in her off fore and off hind. The trouble is theres no way that she will let me wash it yet and I'm not sure the vet is going to get a good look either.I will get vet in tomorrow anyway, perhaps some antibiotics might help. Her feet are atrocious too so I'm desperate to get those trimmed, hopefully we will be able to do the fronts this week now.Fingers crossed please!

Well the vet came today and she was pretty good about her front legs but they were very sore due to all the scabbing so we decided to sedate her and clip all the hair off,she was very good for the iv,and then everything was easy.We scrubbed all her scabs off and put some cream on ( dermobian substitute, whats it called now??!lol!)She also had an injection of dectomax as the vet thought it could be mange as it goes up the inside of her hind legs too. She was really good throughout and happy with me after the sedative wore off too ( phew!) so now I just have to get the cream on for the next 4 days, which I think will be ok,and then hopefully it will clear up.What a good girl!

poor elly has got some nasty infection going on in one of her mud fever wounds, despite washing and applying flamaxine 2x day,it went really nasty and 'split' open last friday.Got the vet out and it was so sore that we had to sedate her to treat it,he cleaned it all up and left a silver dressing on it until today. We took the dressing off and it was much improved but still quite open so we have had to dress it again until thursday, but at least it is improving. All the other scabs are much better, almost healed completely with just the washing, hibiscrub and cream. We had to sedate her again for it as despite her letting me pick all her scabs off her other legs and wash them she rather hates men and this one is just way too sore for her not to kick the vet through the stable wall! So whilst sedated he gave her an internal and she is not in foal, which is good, well def not for this year anyway! He also did her teeth,I normally get my ( superb) EDT to do them but thought that as vet was here and she was sedated may as well take advantage! She had some really sharp points which he sorted out,but looking at her teeth she is also considerably older than 12! at least 20 we thought. She also has what looks suspiciously liike cribbing damage to her fronts, which is odd as she has not tried it atall here despite being on box rest for many weeks( she is back in again until her leg heals as it is under the fetlock,so walking around too much will split it open again, poor girl. She is sooooo good for me now though,it is really cold here tonight and she has even let me put pyjamas on her!! very cute she looks too!

having babies by the look of her tummy and udders. Although according to the ac she has only been in a couple of very nice homes before accidently being sold to the fattening farm?!strange how she has not a clue about picking her feet up or leading or anything else other than being herded and afraid then...
