bertie - do they come in different sizes? I thought i'd read somewhere that there are smaller versions - I ask because I wonder if Roxanne is part Breton, she's only 14.2 but is very solid and has a very broad forehead. :-)

Wow Nickya, what a lovely horse to get.
Bertie, am completely blown away by the piccies - you realy need to post those piccies on the main section too. People will be drooling over your handsome boy!
Nickya I am really going to enjoy watching your young lad grow up via the DG - and what a lucky boy to be home with you.

They are old ones Casper... I'm sure that everyone has seen them (at least once) before.. Yes, you have two 'types' of Bretons (just as you have 4 types of Welshies) - the Trait (which is what I have), which are the large, heavily built horses used in agriculture (and yeah... try telling Bert that!) and then the lighter, more of a heavyweight coaching type called the 'Postier'. It is possible that Roxanne is a partbred as I know that they do cross different stallions to the Breton mares to create lighter and more agile horses (I've seen a Breton x trotter and a Breton x arab before). This is the official website for the Breton horse (in French though ). www.cheval-breton.fr/fr/There is a large Breton competition on the 8th & 9th September for anyone who is interested www.cheval-breton.fr/userfiles/File/pdf/Affiche_40x60_ChevalBzh_BDF.pdfETA: The Chap driving the pair of Bretons (wearing the red boots) on the poster is Laurent Toublanc who came 3rd in the French Heavy Horse finals in Paris this year and who I've bought three of my five Bretons from! ;D
