i think the milk dries up pretty quick once a foal is not suckling (still have to click on your name to find thread)

Hi, Iwillbuy, I don't know why? The Area 41 horses threads are on a sub board to the IHDGers personal charities and missions, otherwise I don't know why? ?? She definitely has milk but someone told me it can take up to 6 weeks to dry up. I would have thought it wouldn't come easily after a few weeks? I really hope she is in foal but from what people are saying it looks less likely.

She is a lovely looking girl! I'm stumped on the belly thing as my vet obviously would have been able to palpate a advanced foalie but NO nothing but a MAssive belly and shes been done on 5 day gaurd as recomended by vet??

SuzieQ, it is quite frustrating the not knowing isn't it? Does your vet think she is or not or maybe for next year? Nothing really new to report on Maybelline except she is quickly worming her way into our hearts! She is very sweet natured, doesn't mind me touching her underneath and likes rubs and scratches...don't they all. New photos (that aren't much different to the first ones!!)

It is quite sad, especially as by her behaviour that Honey has had a nice upbringing and is very frustrating not knowing how or why she ended up with the meat man! She could be in foal for next year but she could also have had a full bladder! I do hope she isn't as I have horrid nightmares of her being in foal to a heavy stallion and shes only diddy! I will get the vet to check again for me in a while!

Not much new here, still got milk, not passing many yucky things in her droppings now (identified as Bot fly pupae) oh and she had all her mane combed out tonight and she was good as gold while I was pulling the comb through all the knots. Didn't have the camera unfortunately as it was all silky and soft after. She really is a very pretty girlie and has obviously been well cared for. I wonder if her old Mum and/or Dad wonder about her? I suppose if they sold her to a fat farm they didn't care that much.
Trying to stay chilled about the Black filly with no name...though I can't wait for the weekend. Will have to have a competition to name her once we get some better photos of her. I hope she isn't too petrified by it all.
Upsetting day due to nasty vet's bill and bad news from the stud Elphin is at. Hey ho.....

Sorry you've not had the best day! Although lucky you that you have managed to sort her mane out,I am soooo envious!wish lanica would let me sort hers out!! Perhaps her old mum and/or dad didn't know that was were she was heading, think that most people round there just think this horrible little man is just a bulk standard horse dealer!
Can't wait to hear about your new charge when she gets to you.
Take care hun, Rxxx

Your mare is gorgeous and looks so settled.
She doesn't look heavy in foal to me then again if she was a maiden mare she would not necessarily be as large. My own mares can take upto 6 weeks to dry up. Also 2 of my mares that are usually regular breeders have not had foals this year but they have still come into milk!!
Time will tell though and if she has milk because a foal is on the way I would have thought the time scale would be anything upto a month. Best of luck.

Thanks Rita x x x Thanks Hollowmoor, she definitely isn't a maiden looking at her teats! It must be at least 4 or 5 weeks since she was first photographed at the fatfarm but there is still plenty of milk there. I agree she doesn't look ready to pop but it seems odd if it is next years foal why she has milk. From what Lucy has said it seems unlikely she would have been bred so late so should have foaled by now. I think maybe she is having a phantom and just tubby....wish I knew though!

bless her, she really is pretty, I love looking at pics of her. Is there any way to scan her or anything to tell if she is in foal, or would she be too far along?

Olny just caught up with this bit , does she seem like she is drying up or increasing milk dizzy i think she looks in foal and prob this year , unless of course the foal went for meat or somewhere else !!! but you should have seen her biginning to dry up by now , i noticed you have just bought another one when is she arriving ? and are you going to keep them both or find homes for them ? well done and good luck
