Well it was a very stressful time actually getting her here due to a transporter with a mind of his own that wouldn't keep his word (but that's another story!)
Maybelline arrived here at 1.15am this morning, strolled off the lorry and made a bee line for the grass. We decided to stable her overnight for various reasons and she was quite happy to go into the stable and was soon tucking into hay after a looooong drink....must've been hot on the lorry!
We left her to it as we were somewhat tired after a very long wait.
This morning she poked her head out and whinnied when I opened the back door, I suspect it was "are you bringing my breakfast" call but she didn't seem worried nor distressed in any way and was happy to let me in and out to clean her stable up (it was bit wet after all that water!)
Gave her a wormer straightaway after reading what Morse wrote about Lancia and then her breakfast which was obviously a bit "English" for her taste as she picked at it though finished it up eventually.
She was quite happy for me to touch her all over and pick her feet up.
At lunchtime the farrier came, her feet weren't really long but quite battered. Someone has cared for her I think, she isn't at all headshy or scared of anything. She wasn't brill for the farrier, kept taking her leg away and believe me it is quite a big heavy leg! She got better though and was fine by leg 4.
I really want to find a proper barefoot trimmer though, I wasn't impressed by the 5 minute tidy up though I realise it wasn't the right time for a full balnce jobby but my Farrier NEVER does that anyway and Kizzy's feet are a mess.
So if anyone knows a barefoot trimmer who will come to just North Of York PLEASE let me know.
So with the others up getting their feet done we took her up to a separate paddock of her own and she had her head down in the grass and never moved!
I'm not good at teeth but she has a hook which my horse book says is about 7 years, I don't see a galvaynes groove so maybe she is younger rather than older. It does make you wonder what on Earth she ended up there for. Bless her.
I am not really sure whether she is in foal or not. I'll go and take some more pictures in a bit and let you all decide for me!
it could be that the foal is due next year not this, anyway it will be a bonus!
Healthwise she seems fine, not lame, sick or sorry. The flies must have been bad where they came from as they all seem to have suffered but she seems to have got off fairly lightly, a couple on her spine. She did have a cough when the farrier was here but I haven't heard her before or since so hoping it was just a bit of hay.
Will tell you all more later and more photos.
